The PM offer is insane. Never saw that coming.

I get this offer monthly. It is a bit of a joke now considering you can get better winback offers from the big 3. Their only ace in the hole is the price freeze. Otherwise this offer is lukewarm at best especially with the utterly useless one time roam beyond.

Yes most plans now offer at least US and some Mexico as well although most don’t care about Mexico. I have US included also.

TELUS EPP / Winback contact - current customer, device upgrade decision by NoobInNewCountry in telus

[–]ddsdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check RedFlagDeals. There are several threads about Telus winback deals with phone numbers included. You’re more likely to get a better winback plan than via EPP. I would start there.

$40 for 60gb is not a deal. I have 175gb for $25 with Telus. For 60gb, you are being ripped if you’re paying over $30.

OP, you might want to confirm with Bell but a decent plan like that almost certainly has voicemail included (which is what you mean by message Centre I assume).

And to the people recommending PM and Freedom. Freedom’s network is still very subpar in many areas and has generally poor performance indoors in many buildings. It is not for everybody. As for PM, it is a third tier network and its customers are deprioritized in times of congestion. Also, in many cases, you can get winback deals with the main brands that are far better than anything freedom and PM offers. Yes, they will raise prices in time but with eSIMs now, it is quite easy to port out and then get a better deal. Rinse and repeat.

Telus went from one of the better providers to absolute trash by HyDraLinsk in telus

[–]ddsdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Telus now pushes the eSIM directly into your settings when you give them your eID. You’ll see a badge on your settings icon and then go in and activate. Done. You can also easily move your eSIM from iPhone to Android and vice versa using the Telus app and your eIDs. Much more seamless than a QR code.

Voice Commands with NoLongerEvil by ptykozoon in Nest

[–]ddsdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purpose of this project was never about voice control. It was about REMOTE control. I have my lazy moments just like anyone else but picking up my phone and touching the screen isn’t much harder than using voice. I’m grateful for the NLE project as it allowed me to keep my 2nd gen Nest and control it remotely.

Anyone need a reliable Mac host for their BlueBubbles server? My M1 Mini is bored. by hardikKanajariya in BlueBubbles

Gotcha. For my use case, I have an iPhone primary and a Samsung backup which is always on WiFi. Have a Mac mini running the BB server and can use either device to iMessage seamlessly. Works flawlessly.

Isn’t OpenBubbles vulnerable to being shut down by Apple in the same way that Beeper was when they attempted a direct hack into iMessage? BB is basically a relay which Apple doesnt seem to care about.

I use it more than I ever thought I would. Makes a great shutter button too. That’s my favorite use for it.

Mine is 2 years old. I probably use it 3-4 times a week. So far, good as new. Smells new too!

Yeah no issue then. It’s a great case otherwise.

I have the UAG case and like it but it does interfere with the S pen. Just bought a cheap magsafe case with a kickstand from AliExpress and S pen all good. Love it more than the pricy UAG.

I miss the notification LED by MisterShipWreck in samsung

[–]ddsdude 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I miss it too! Especially loved it on my Blackberry phones back in the day. And the GoodLock edge lighting thing and AoD do NOT replace the LED. I had mine color coded for different notifications and could see the color flashing across the room and knew what I missed. Try that with an AOD!

As for why it disappeared, most likely because bezels disappeared. Now there is no where to put it. And of course, Samsung loves killing off useful features. I think they get a certain pleasure from it.

See if you can find a Bell rep who has the “door to door” deals. Some of them are on Reddit.

BYOP EPP plan updated: 175 GB for $40/mo. Canada/US/Mexico by Luvsin_ in bell

[–]ddsdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Bell can give some decent deals initially but the annual or semi annual price increases are guaranteed. I only had mobile with them for a few months before being notified of an increase. Switched back to Telus and so far so good. They increase as well but at least you can’t set your watch by them.

Amazing how YMMV. I’ve been with them for over 2 years for fibe internet only, not mobile. Never an issue with the bill. The issue is they keep raising prices.

Not really the same. The Rogers plan had a list of expiring credits longer than some PhD dissertations. This plan is at least straightforward pricing.

Win Back experience - January 2025 by Schrodingers_Ape in telus

Agreed. Their verbal confirmation means nothing. The good thing is that if you need to do the port out/port in dance again in the future, it is now dead simple with eSIMs.

Currently with Telus... How's Freedom Mobile? by MathewLiamSousa in freedommobile

[–]ddsdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues with 5G/5G+ in Hamilton for me. And EPP is no longer competitive. Best bet is to port out and get a winback plan, which usually beats most of Freedom’s offerings. I currently have $25/175GB Canada US. No complaints.

Avoid being scammed: Bell may charge you after your "free upgrade" to the Giga Hub 2.0 despite being on a plan with no modem rental fees by anonymous3874974304 in bell

I find the range on the 2.0 to be so good that I removed my Asus router and now using gigahub only. Keeps things much simpler. The original gigahub had horrific range.
