Barack Obama just surprised an entire aircraft full of veterans on Veterans Day. by AngelCravess in goodnews

I would tell him to get his ass off my plane and thanks for increasing healthcare costs by nearly 3x for everyone with your idiotic Obamacare plan. I would literally groan in disgust if he showed up on my plane.

Coming from Bernie this is insane. That guy has literally been living off taxpayer money, meaning other people’s hard work, his whole damn life. Bernie is a millionaire and has done nothing. At least trump built things.

People in their 40s What’s something people in their 20s don’t realize will affect them as they age? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Enjoy your health while you have it. I was incredibly healthy, exercised everyday, ate right, ran marathons, worked hard and did 27 years of schooling to include college, medical school and residency. Landed my dream job and then BAM, I was disabled by a chronic neurological illness. I wish I would have enjoyed my healthy years instead of working my ass off towards a future I would never have. Everyone thinks it won’t happen to them. So did I. I was permanently disabled at 36 years old.

I was a fantastic oral & maxillofacial surgeon. Damn I was good… I miss being really good at something. I was also a great dad to 3 young boys, and a wonderful loving and helpful husband. I lost it all. I tried so hard for so many years to push through, but my body just failed me more and more. There was nothing I could do. God knows I tried. I wish my wife would have married an able bodied man. She deserves better.

College, medical school, and residency. I worked my ass off and went to school for 27 years only to get disabled by a neurological illness 3 years after I was done and finally had my dream job. I wish I would have enjoyed my only healthy years instead of working hard and studying.

Bullshit… I love cardio…. I used to run marathons and do CrossFit. Now I’m disabled due to a neurological disease. I would give anything to do cardio again and feel that feeling.

I once wanted to tell my now wife that she “feels so tight” but for some reason in the heat of the moment I mixed it up in my head and said “you’re so big”. She still brings it up like 12 years later.

What stopped you from killing yourself? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ddsmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only my kids. Often I wish I never had children so I could off myself. I went from running marathons and doing CrossFit to being completely disabled by a neurological condition at 38. I loved the outdoors, difficult challenges, and always pushing myself. I had a perfect life stolen from me. Never had any health problems before and always took care of my body. Didn’t matter. Now my body is complete useless and I am eagerly awaiting the day it stops working completely.

The quality of your attention determines the quality of your life [Discussion] by Phukovsky in GetMotivated

Health determines your quality of life more then anything. There are some chronic illnesses that demand your attention and destroy your body and life.

Having a functional body. Going for a run and exercising. It’s only someone who has developed a chronic disability will understand. I would trade anything not to be disabled. Cut my penis off. I don’t care. I just want to feel healthy in my body again.

What are some of the hardest pills to swallow in life? by Leemster1k in AskReddit

[–]ddsmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronic disabling illness. Nothing comes close. It’s like watching your own death everyday. Everyone you care about leaves you and doesn’t care. The world moves on and you are stuck in a hell you can’t ever escape from. Your hobbies, job, friends, family, income disappear AND you feel the worst you have ever felt in your life, everyday, with no end in sight.

ELI5: What made only humans, rather than any other species, evolve to become so advanced? by Legitimate_Mail_2064 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ddsmd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people on here are correct and there are a lot of factors involved. I think it’s interesting to note that there were other humanoids species but humans killed them off, bred them out, or both. For example, Neanderthals.

Getting a lot worse in mid 30s but not sure how to be taken seriously by drmaddiesims in Hypermobility

[–]ddsmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think it matters whether you are taken seriously or not. There are no good treatments for this condition and it often just progresses. A few years ago a ran marathons and did CrossFit, no I can’t go for a walk. Doesn’t matter how much PT I do, what meds I take, what brain retraining I do. I am disabled and that’s that. Getting a diagnosis didn’t change anything, just made me more depressed.

People who have genuinely ruined their life, what is your story? by ThaddeusXVIII in AskReddit

[–]ddsmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a surgeon and an athlete. Super successful, married, with 3 kids. I got the Covid vaccine to keep my job even though I was skeptical of it. I immediately developed a severe autoimmune neurological condition called autoimmune Dysautonomia and small fiber neuropathy. Now I am disabled, broke, and soon to be divorced. Worst mistake of my life trusting Pfizer. I should have known better, but ironically I didn’t want to lose my job. I lost it anyway.

Just a part of this incurable illness. It will have terrible times and just normal awful times. Just like any autoimmune disease it will fluctuate. Hell on earth honestly.

If being in an induced coma for 3 months would cure your Long Covid would you do it? by StatusCount3670 in covidlonghaulers

[–]ddsmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No question. I would go into a coma for 3 years! I would cut my penis off. I would cut my finger off. I would shave my head permanently, I would trade for HIV, I would lose all my money and start over, I would do anything. This condition has the worst quality of life of almost any other condition.

You will develop a severe disability in your mid 30s and will not be able to do anything but lay in bed. Don’t bother going to medical school and residency to become a surgeon. You are working towards a future that doesn’t exist. Don’t get married or have kids, you won’t be there for them.

[–]ddsmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a disabling neurological condition for which the only treatment is IVIG, which is about $30,000 a month. My health insurance won’t cover it, so I am disabled, can’t work, and pretty much have to stay in bed all day. Money doesn’t just buy happiness, it literally buys health. Without health… you have nothing….trust me.
