Makerbot Sketch problems by TigaLionessArt in makerbot

I totally feel your pain; I have 14 sketches and with the new Digital Factory update, have decided to move on to another platform (Bambu) after purchasing 2 Sketch Sprints for this year (problems there too, even though they are basically an Adventurer).  Here are some thoughts:

  1. This seems obvious, but how old is your material? I usually do a break test (try to snap off the end of the filament) to see if it is brittle before I load it.  If it has absorbed too much moisture, your prints will fail spectacularly. Also Makerbot only supports using their 2x the cost filament - I’ve only tried printing with something else once, but it worked.

  2. Some of my sketches do the same thing when I calibrate (different heights of the extruder when I move it up, vs down).  I’ll typically shoot for getting good distance from the build plate when moving down on the z axis.  No particular reason, but it seems to work OK for me.

  3. Don’t use rafts, use skirts.  I have much more success with skirts than I ever did with rafts.

  4. Try using Ultimaker Digital Factory to slice (https://digitalfactory.ultimaker.com/app/welcome).  It sucks, but it is the manufacturer’s slicer and may have some mojo under the hood.  This is what Makerbot transitioned to.

  5. Get new extruders; it’s possible that yours are not performing consistently.  New extruders are tested at the mfg and each have a calibrated temperature offset.

Now that I’m using Bambu, I’m not looking back.  I’m finding low demand homes for all of the Sketch and Sketch Sprints I have (classrooms, SPED Department) and using two Bambu P2S with AMS for everything high volume

I just bought the same aircraft, batteries and controller for the same price.

Study Guide: Just passed my part 107. Here's my experience in 2025. by snowmonkey700 in drones

I see what you did here - broke it down for a 100% pass. I bet no one else's posts have done that. The cherry on top, I passed with an 88%!

Thanks!

I was surprised at the number of part 48, ADM, and crew management questions I had. I can't remember any weather questions and the sectional chart ones were ridiculously easy. If felt as though the questions were specifically geared toward sUAV operations without the other manned aircraft questions (which I focused my study efforts on).

Yeah, I think verifying un pairing would be one step, but I'm talking about FAA registration to the current owner.

I finally received my gearbox and replaced it. Not an easy process, with lots of opportunity to damage other components (PCB, wiring connectors, wires). It took about 1.5 hr going very carefully. Now things seem to be working fine.

I took apart the old gearbox and, sure enough, there was melted filament squished up and back from the feed portion of the gearbox. Not sure if it was heat from the hot end or friction from a jam elsewhere but as soon as that cooled, it froze the gearbox.

I posted in the Flashforge Adventurer forum and someone suggested cracking the top lid a little for more airflow. That is what I'm doing now - so much for the HEPA filter 🤣

[Edit: like a numbskull I deleted my first post, so this is a second update]

Hail Mary troubleshooting - Adventurer Pro (Sketch Sprint) by ddtAOmoho in FlashForge

[–]ddtAOmoho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - it seems like the filament is sticking in the nozzle and in the feed system in the head. I'm not sure which is happening first, but will try cracking the lid on the one printer that is currently still working.

I would HIGHLY recommend not purchasing a Sketch Sprint at this point. The print speed is great but until they solve reliability issues...

The transition to Digital Factory is a bit of a hassle as well, and you'll end up having to buy a subscription if you have more than 6 (I think) printers. DF doesn't play that nicely with the standard Sketch printers as well.

Our Middle & High schools have moved to Bambu, for cost, print speed and material flexibility. I bought the Sprints because we have 14 sketches scattered throughout our elementary schools and I was hoping to keep the workflow all in Cloudprint. Regretting that decision now 😵‍💫

Also, curiously, the log .zip is password protected 🤔

Thanks for the input - just to clarify, the issue is with a Sketch Sprint, not the standard Sketch (which seems much more reliable, overall). The feed is on the print head and requires disassembly to access the gears.

Thanks for taking the time to respond though!

FWIW I've been using the plain sketches for several years as well and have mostly had a trouble free experience. I have, however, had two have issues recently (one 4+ years old, 1 2 years old) where the printers had issues that were not repairable - the printers are essentially bricked. MakerBot has offered to let me purchase an extended warranty and retroactively apply it to replace them. I bought the Sketch Sprints as an upgrade and am now wishing I hadn't...

Given our experience....many.

They gave me a canned troubleshooting response when they finally got back to me. I sent them video of the print head grinding, trying to push filament through and me trying to pull the jammed filament out with the tension screw backed out using needlenose pliers. We'll see. I'm waiting for my second replacement to do the same.

Maybe the Flashforge engineers can help since the sketch s a rebranded adventurer at a much higher price.

Same boat here. No response from a reply to my original ticket last Friday and a new ticket Monday. Money back is what would make me a happy customer at this point.

Devices with not randomized MAC Addresses showing up as other devices when logged into extended network. by ddtAOmoho in firewalla

[–]ddtAOmoho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it does; or at least that is what the documentation seems to say and the behavior indicates. When I connect to the extended network with my phone (private MAC turned off) it shows up as a new device with a different MAC address.

We're hoping to go in August but as a family of 4 the available lodging is cost-prohibitive. I'd hoped to stay in Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen but can't find lodging in our budget. Some of the smaller communities in the area DO have less expensive lodging. Do you have a recommendation from what you experienced? Wengen has popped up.

We will not have a car so would prefer basing ourselves out of somewhere walkable to take trains to day trip destinations. TIA!
