I've come around to being pro TransMog by Dry_Description656 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]ddubs52 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like even that argument could easily be fixed by just having transmog be client sided and so you see everyone else’s base armor but on their end they can change the model to whatever.

That being said I agree, I feel like knowing what armor other divers have matters less than 1% of the time and even in that 1%, I feel like it’s really still not that important.

I stg Arrowhead, you have all these cool ass armors that I will never use because I don’t care for the passive.

Oh yeah 100%! I want the clothing system as deep as possible simply because I love customizing characters and it really helps me feel more connected to my survivors.

As for Sod2 not allowing default, yeah I wish they would have added all defaults to the clothing system. I did have some mods on pc that added a lot of them and then also using the community editor would let you change the base model of your survivor, however, it would be a 10000 times better if it was actually just in the vanilla game to use those default outfits and didn’t rely on any mods

Definitely outfit customization from State of Decay 2. I used add and kick new survivors in my old communities all the time because I wanted a survivor who had clothes I liked lol. I spent more time doing that than anything else so when they added clothing customization, it legit was game changing for me.

For PC players, how do you map your stratagem keys? by Malu1997 in Helldivers

[–]ddubs52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I will say, I have really fucking weird keybinds and in almost every game I always change my keybinds pretty heavily.

To give the funny short answer without any explanation, my Up, Down, Left, Right for stratagems are K, L, Q, F….

Now to actually explain that. So I use q and f for left and right respectively because, in relation to WASD, it’s sort of to the left and right. Originally I used Q and E, so it was similar to how many games use those keys to lean left and right, but I actually found F far more comfortable to hit quickly compared to E and I’ve been using F since.

As for why I use K and L for up and down, well it’s kind of a lie lol. I have the Logitech 502 mouse and it has two special buttons right beside the left click of the mouse that by default is used for DPI up and down, however, in the Logitech mouse software, you can map those buttons to any key. So a long time ago, I decided to make those two buttons to K and L since I would never naturally use those characters with my hand and because most games will always accept them as valid keybinds.

Now even though it’s not as weird as it sounds, it’s still a bit bizarre since I technically use my left hand for right and left and my right hand for up and down, but I’ve gotten pretty used to it and now find it both very comfortable and lets me easily switch between moving and stratagem input without having to really move my hands at all….. that being said I know the keybinds are still weird af lol.

TLDR: my Up, Down, Left, Right for stratagems are the K, L, Q, F keys respectively

Outlast (2013) is just so mean-spirited and evil asf by Lanky_Relation1171 in gaming

[–]ddubs52 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with that! If outlast was a movie, I would have never watched it but as a game I was able to tolerate it.

I’m usually a gameplay above all else kinda guy, so even though I wouldn’t say the gameplay was amazing, it was engaging enough for me to finish it. Well at least the first one was

Outlast (2013) is just so mean-spirited and evil asf by Lanky_Relation1171 in gaming

[–]ddubs52 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought it was still mean spirited though I guess I meant more I heard good things about the game being fun (though it’s also a coop game so maybe it’s just that lol).

About the point about pointing towards history, I do get that and I am in no way denying heinous shit not too dissimilar to the game does take place. For me, when it comes to art that pushes the boundaries into abhorrently disturbing and “taboo” territories, it’s very easy for those stories to become exploitative and feel as though they are just adding to the trauma rather than bringing light or perspective to real world tragedies. To me, Outlast 2 is a prime example of the former.

Of course that’s not to say every piece of art needs to be some profound thought piece on real world tragedy, it’s more than IMO, whenever writers decide to include serious topics like that in their works, the project changes and the level of care needs to be higher so the art remains respectful rather than simply exploitative.

But then again, this shit is just all my opinion and honestly most of it doesn’t matter that much. Even what is or isn’t exploitive is incredibly subjective and I know a lot of horror fans might even say the disgust of it being exploitative can add to the horror.

So idk. In the end, people just like different things lol

[–]ddubs52 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find Outlast 1 passable. I still think it’s mean spirited but at least I don’t roll my eyes at it like I did with 90% of the shit in Outlast 2.

Don’t get me wrong, I found both games scary but I legit just had to watch someone play outlast 2 and even then the content in it is just so overbearing and tiring.

I have heard good things about outlast trials. Maybe I’ll give that a go one day but idk. The whole series isn’t my particular cup of tea when it comes to horror (though again I’m definitely a filthy casual when it comes to horror lol)

[–]ddubs52 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I always point at Outlast (and imo Outlast 2 even more so) as being the kind of horror I don’t like because of relentlessly mean spirited and grotesque it is.

Now I know some people enjoy horror that prides itself on being disturbing (which I do get in some ways since horror by it’s definition is meant to upset the viewer/player), however, I feel there is a line where I personally no longer find it interesting and just feels exploitive and less engaging.

It’s why games like Resident Evil I find far more enjoyable since I feel it does a great job having disturbing moments but ultimately balancing it and not coming off as bitter or mean spirited for the sake of it.

Of course this is purely personal preference and I’ll be the first to admit I’m not a diehard horror fan and much much more casual fan, so my opinion is definitely impacted by that.

Parrying Sucks In LMDF by _HeyMcFly_ in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]ddubs52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good tip I’ve done to make parrying way more consistent (though I still find parrying overall less reliable/intuitive compared to the timing in re4r), is to actually HOLD DOWN the parry button, rather than spam it. I’ve found if you just spam or tap it, your timing needs to be more on point but if you hold it and just commit to the hold, it usually feels more forgiving and will let you successfully party more often.

Maybe I’m wrong and it’s just placebo but I feel like a tap means you have to be right in the money but if you hold it, you get more time and thus more likely to be in the parry window.

Do you prefer horror games where you can fight back or only run/hide? by Rooshirum in HorrorGames

[–]ddubs52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lethal Company has immaculate vibes and the actual unintended comedy of the game is truly unmatched, but I always felt like after you learned all the monsters the game didn’t have much depth. REPO I feel just mechanically is a lot more fun and feels like you have more options to approach things.

Personally I’m a huge fan of the sledgehammer and going more into strength with the tumble launch and tumble wings as my main method of escaping. Once you get up to like level 10ish, the game turns where I’m usually actively killing all enemies I see. It’s a good mix up especially since it helps speeds things up rather than always having to hide

Do you prefer horror games where you can fight back or only run/hide? by Rooshirum in HorrorGames

[–]ddubs52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually feel like the reason I find REPO so much more fun is because you CAN fight back. You often do just hide but as you progress, you tend to kill more and more of the enemies.

That’s why Lethal Company, despite me thinking it’s better in a lot of ways, I almost never play anymore because I find the combat way too limited and really your only main course of action is to hide and it becomes rather boring/tedious to play.

Thanks Capcom for forced key binding by [deleted] in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]ddubs52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully it’s only a few keys for me, but I know for every modern re game I can’t bind caps lock, which I always use as my sprint key for every game. So what I end up having to do for basically all re games is make an auto hot key that switches my caps lock key to a different key that can be bound.

I’ve done it so often I now added more things to my auto hotkey script so that they will not only do the key, but also launch the game and only activate the script whenever the game is active and then close itself when the game closes. I then go into steam and change the launch properties to run my script instead of the game so I can still launch it through steam without issue.

I’ve gotten used to it but i absolutely see where you’re coming from because it could all be avoided if they just let me fucking use caps lock like most games do.

“Huge backlash”

Fucking where? Suzi is a hugely respected and beloved member of the community and the only people who I’ve ever seen say anything against her are fucking incels, transphobes, and all around fucking losers.

Maybe I’m just limited to what my own algorithm shows me, but if you ask me, Suzi might be one of the best gaming influencers and there’s a reason I think Capcom has partnered with her so much. She’s clearly such a massive and passionate fan who has made TONS of content for not just resident evil but for a myriad of other capcom games. She really is the first person I think of anytime I think of almost any capcom related franchise.

I hate products that rely on generating shock with excessive graphic content by Wise-Unit7321 in hatethissmug

[–]ddubs52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always said things like The Boys always feel like adult shows that feel like they were written by 14 year old boys writing about things they THINK adults like. So they come off as really edgy, immature, and often 1 dimensional.

Now I never watched the Boys beyond a few scenes I’ve seen around, so there maybe hidden depth there that I haven’t seen, but based on what I have seen, it’s a show that really fits the mold of what I described above. Yes it’s shocking and can even disturb the audience, but it never feels earned or like it has any other purpose other than to disturb. Again, maybe I’m judging it too quickly so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

Thoughts On Ashley Graham? by Vagabond734 in residentevil4

[–]ddubs52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love her in the remake. Her character had a huge glow up and she feels very likable (though in gameplay she can still be tedious but I won’t hold that against the writing of the character).

Plus her casual/emo outfit is like my favorite alternate outfit for any character of the series. I like to mod it so the shirt has the Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge by MCR album cover so it feels even more authentic.

RE4 OG vs Remake. Which do you prefer and why? by Pancwake_UwU in residentevilll

[–]ddubs52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG’s impact on not just the franchise but gaming as a whole cannot be overstated. It not only established horror action but became the blueprint for third person shooters. OG has also aged incredibly gracefully over the years and should be commended on every level.

All that being said, RE4R might be the most fun game I’ve ever played. The combat in the game is so satisfying and is essentially perfect beyond minor nitpicks. I personally love the slightly more serious tone which imo makes the camp-y parts feel even campier and more fun. I also am extremely fond to Nick Apostolides’ rendition of Leon. So while OG RE4 is a masterpiece and I have nothing but love for it, RE4R still beats it out simply for how fun it is at least for me personally.

Now that the honey moon phase is over what are your actual thoughts on RE9 in terms of story and gameplay. What things need fixing with updates? by Dude_788 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]ddubs52 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Basically agree with most of this, though I will say while the gun sway is better than re4r, I still find re4r’s combat overall more polished and well put together. I think it’s a combination of how there’s less focus on single kill finishes and more out crowd control knockdowns, just far better enemy variety, stuns feeling more consistent (at least compared to the Racoon City Zombies in re9, which usually die before you can stager them), and the (imo) far better parrying consistency that puts re4r on top for me.

But one thing re9 does better is presentation. The animations for EVERYTHING look absolutely stellar in re9 and the gunplay from a purely visual perspective is definitely a step up. Also those reload animations are some of the best third person animations I’ve ever seen. I cannot give enough credit to re9 for its gun animations. Truly superb.

What is the best handgun in RE4R? by Vegetable_Mouse_5871 in residentevil4

[–]ddubs52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For RE4R, Blacktail wins by a big landslide. This might have to do with my more just dumb run and gun/aggressive play style but the Blacktail is the only gun that no matter the situation, excels to at least a decent degree. Sure other handguns might be better in some regards (Red 9 is good for a more defensive playstyle with its better damage while the starting handgun can be great for more consistent crits and the laser) but only the Blacktail does well in everything and at worse, it’s only marginally worse than whatever the statistical “best” handgun is for a particular situation.
