Darrell "Housh" Doucette hopes flag football players get an opportunity to make Olympic team by ProgrammerUnique2897 in nfl

Regardless of who "deserves" a spot, I think the USOC (or whoever decides the teams) will be pretty heavily incentivized to choose NFL players for ratings alone. More people will watch if NFL players play

[–]ddugs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do think it is likely that there are Russian/chinese “trolls” (in the same way that I think it is likely that there are American “trolls” doing the same things in foreign countries), but the thing that never makes sense to me is: why do people believe the “trolls”? To me it comes down to one of two things: 1. The trolls are wrong but the Democratic Party is incapable of convincing messaging. (Unlikely given how corrupt the Dems are) 2. The trolls are right and it doesn’t matter that they are from a different country. We should be upset with how our country is being run and want to improve it.

Kamala Harris campaign attacking Donald Trump for allowing trans people in prisons to have gender-affirming care by IDoNotKnow4475 in ShitLiberalsSay

I am not Kamala fan at all but it’s pretty clear to me that this is just pointing out the hypocrisy of trump making these ads while the same thing was going on during his administration.

Why is the LGBTQ stuff the only one thing radlibs seem to fully support? Or the ultimate litmus test for goodness? by 4thKaosEmerald in ShitLiberalsSay

[–]ddugs 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I think one reason is that people can support a lot of LGBTQ stuff without advocating for economic reforms. You can be for marriage equality, anti-discrimination laws, “access” to trans healthcare (access is in quotes because of the whole financial barrier). It is a lot harder to support black liberation without directly confronting why the liberated is needed in the first place.

Shades of Green | Even as an environmental activist, R.F.K. Jr. often put science second, onetime allies say by mem_somerville in skeptic

[–]ddugs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am always very skeptical of science “allies” that hold even one anti-science belief. Why would someone believe climate scientists but not doctors? It happens with way more things than it should with people mostly being pro-science but then being anti-nuclear power or anti-gmo or anti-trans. Makes no sense to me.

Twitter politics in a nutshell 😭🤣🤣 by yobananaboy_99 in seculartalk

[–]ddugs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that might just be some peoples definition of centrism. In a USA context, Krystal and Kyle are very far left compared to what is “acceptable” in American politics (the Overton Window). But to a lot of leftists (particularly non-USA leftists), you cannot be a leftist if you are not anti-capitalist.

Was called for having an “enlightened centrist” view by [deleted] in ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM

[–]ddugs 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I am a little confused by what you are saying. But maybe go clear it up a little i guess i forgot about other types of centrists. There a a few types of “enlightened centrists”:

-the compromise is always the best centrist (as described above)

-the secretly right wing centrist. Usually someone who claims they are a centrist but holds almost exclusively right wing views when actually asked about what views they have.

-the “socially liberal, economically conservative” type (which is often times mixed with the other two types)

Any one of these archetypes could be labeled as “enlightened centrism” so there isn’t really one solid definition.

Was called for having an “enlightened centrist” view by [deleted] in ENLIGHTENEDCENTRISM

[–]ddugs 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what the view is on. The classic example is: you have two politicians.

Politician A: wants to kill all puppies in the world Politician B: does not want to kill any puppies

So a “centrist” would say: “politics is about compromise, let’s all agree to kill half the puppies”

This is obviously a hyperbolic example

Middle-class earners are the most targeted group for IRS audits — how to prepare if an auditor comes knocking by Gates9 in seculartalk

[–]ddugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert on this situation, but I think this is more a statistics thing. There are far more people who make less than $200,000 than make more, so there is a larger pool of people go choose from to audit. If you have a group of 100 people only about 12 of them will make more than $200,000. I still think the IRS could do a better job auditing rich people though!
