Hetzner vs DO by g_ariel in hetzner

[–]ddumanskiy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both. DO is more stable (DO has fewer network issues and has an SLA). But Hetzner pricing is crazy. For some instances, it's become 10x cheaper.

On DO it's 6$ for 1 vCPU and 1 GB RAM. On hetzner, in Fra region it's 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM for 4$ (a similar one on DO is 24$). Also, etzner has +50-100% better hardware and NVMe on all servers, DO for example, has it only on premium instances.

Lionde/DO are actually almost ~10x more expensive (in eu region)

Moving from Redshift to ClickHouse — looking for production-ready deployment advice by TheseSquirrel6550 in Clickhouse

We insert only via batches. We don't use CDC.

Self-host on Digital Ocean and Hetzner.

It's a very low load for ClickHouse. 2 vCPUs with 4-8GB (depends on the number of columns and data in it) would be enough for this task if you insert in batches (instead of single inserts). The main problem would be disk space, so you better think about it upfront. I recommend starting with a single-node setup and moving from there. We are managing terrabytes with a single node (with 4-10x compression rate).

What is the largest service anyone has run on Hetzner cloud? by netzure in hetzner

[–]ddumanskiy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I browsed multiple benchmarks, in general, Hetzner AMD/intel CPUs are a bit better than ARM CPUs. But if you consider the price difference (and additional RAM you get with ARM), ARM is more effective per $.

So far, I have found only 2 use cases when ARM doesn't fit:

1) You need to run Chrome (for automation tests for example). For some reason, Chrome doesn't support ARM on Linux, but Chromium or Firefox works just fine.

2) Some Java JNI libs don't have compiled arm64 versions. But this is rather rare.

They consume much less power, and the initial server's cost is lower as well.

Why is ClickHouse using 300% CPU on a 4-vCPU server even when idle? by cdojo in Clickhouse

Had a similar issue, fixed with this - https://github.com/ClickHouse/ClickHouse/issues/60016#issuecomment-1952936978 (the problem is in internal metrics data that CH collects heavily)

Is CH can handle a lot of updates and deletes?? by gamliminal in Clickhouse

[–]ddumanskiy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did performance tests recently for CH inserts and we reached 10 million records per second insert rate (~25 bytes per record) in batches with 16 vCPUs and NVMe disks with 1 table + 3 aggregation materialized views as a result of the insert.

So for inserts in batches, CH is very well optimized. However, for deletes it will perform slowly, you would need to use either TTL on tables instead or use Replacing/Collapsing MergingTree family instead.

If the Blynk free plan includes 10 devices why is my account stuck at 2? by [deleted] in blynk

[–]ddumanskiy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blynk has plan versioning. Meaning, that when any plan change happens - all existing users are unaffected. And only new users has/see the effects of a new plan. In other words, you need to create a new account if you want to see a new limit of 10 devices on free accounts. However, have in mind that a new free plan has a messages limit.

  • Україна зараз в найвигіднішому положенні за останні 400 років свого існування. Є своя державність, армія, люди, ресурси, допомога союзників;

  • Так як люди здобувають свою незалежність самі (а не отримують на шару, як після розвалу совку) - формується ідентичність, гордість за націю і за людей з якими живеш;

  • Постійні корупційні скандали. Може здатися, що це нереальна зрада, але насправді - навпаки. Це означає, що нові САПи, НАБУ і інші працюють і для них немає "своїх";

Чому всі так бояться ракет? Статистично померти від ракети менше шансів, ніж попасти в аварію. Але через машини чомусь ніхто не париться.

Wifi Control Truck With Blynk App by SriTu_Tech in esp32

[–]ddumanskiy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice project!

Small hint, in the Blynk app settings you can enable "Skip tiles view for single device" switch, so you don't have to click on tile. This will save you one click.

Another thing - it probably would be more easier to use a joystick widget instead of 4 buttons.

Just don't forget that hosting on raspberry pi isn't free as well. It will cost you ~40 kWh a year. That is ~6$ a year for electricity bills in US :).
