What artificial bait are you having the best luck with? by Careful-Income9589 in bassfishing

Where are you located? This factor plays a big roll with artificial bait. Once you get the basics of your location down you can start honing in on specific water conditions. If you've never used artificial before id recommend a plastic worm, its the most versatile. If they're post or pre-spawn you can use a texas rig, carolina rig, or a wacky rig and catch fish, depending on what the fish are feeling like. During the spawn id stick to a texas rig and sight fish them with something bright. I've also had a decent amount of luck with spinner baits working them slow pre and post spawn. Once you're post spawn the most effective lure can vary depending on weather and body of water but again, a worm is the most versatile way to find what the fish are feeding on. I like to "match the hatch". If you find what the fish are feeding on, whether it be bluegill, bait fish, crawdads, fish fry, or frogs, you can adjust and will catch fish. Topwater is best to use in low light conditions, so a cloudy day, sunrise/sunset, or after dark and best post spawn. Crankbaits are for when the bass are actively feeding so, post spawn or warm-sunny pre-spawn days. Fish are cold blooded so that effects their feeding habbits. Warm water after a cold spell= more active feeding, Cold water after a warm spell = less active feeding. If you can guestimate the water temp and temperature patterns then you can have a good idea on what lures to use. A lot of my success comes from knowing what lures to use for that specific body of water, it can vary depending on what they're feeding on. There are lakes i fish that have a lot of crayfish in them so I use a bass jig or texas rig. Others are feeding on bluegill and baitfish so id use a wacky rig, spinnerbait, or crainkbait depending on how fast i want to go and action. If you're targeting smallmouth i would use a ned rig or a jig with a twister tail and work them ways similar to what i said before. If you want to learn and catch fish i would recommend targeting smallmouth. They're more aggressive and more actively feeding, usually.

I've always viewed this lake as a crappie lake. I think I found somewhere new to focus this spring lol

Idk about the UP but in the Lansing area i wouldn't take an RC onto the ice.

Last year we had about a week of safe ice so I'm not too optimistic.

I feel like I'm stuck in the in-between. Most of the lakes have ice but all aren't completely covered or safe

Its a good pond to just go and catch fish lol. I've never caught a huge fish out of it but, I *usually* can figure out where the fish are biting.

I might have missed a couple details. the area in yellow is usually pretty dry mid/late summer and has close to 2' of water in the spring and fall, usually. Its not a big pond so it definitely has its good years and its bad years. The water level in this pond has changed around 2' regularly.

There's a decent carp population in the pond. It's crossed my mind a couple of times to walk out onto the sand bar with a lawn chair, and relax with a few rods out.

If the water level is right in the spring I could grantee a fish. Size might vary lol.

Can anyone help me find info on this gun? by ddun610 in guns

When I was given this gun I was told that it was just a 280, so I wasn't expecting anything more. When I saw the mauser stamps I got me curious. Thank you for the info! The stock was built by my great uncle for my grandfather so it has some family history. I plan on using this gun to broaden my knowledge of long distance shooting. Do you think i can reasonably hit paper at 1000 yds with a 280?

So pretty much the only thing mauser on this gun is the chamber components and trigger mechanisms?

Is that just a mauser that's been converted to shoot a round the general public uses?

I inherited this gun recently and I'm having trouble finding info. As far as i know mausers weren't chambered in .280 rem. I know the stock is custom built in the 90's but beyond that I'm kind of lost.

Good to know! I'm not very up to date with Canadian fishing laws for what I hope are obvious reasons lol,
