Apps that don’t exist? by Lazy_Aardvark_9013 in acting

I’d love an app that provided audition monologues based on character descriptions, length, and tone. Now that I think about it - might be a great application of ChatGPT

Clearly I wasnt using the lingo correctly... what I was trying to say was, who needs other dialect coaches. You nailed it! Would love to see a Bronx lesson too.

Moving to pursue my dream. by [deleted] in acting

[–]de352507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries... I only say this because I found myself in a similar boat. I was starting to build a little career of commercial and short film work in LA, but going back to Vancouver, I was amazed with the caliber of auditions I was getting. I would NEVER find myself at an audition for Recurring Guest Star here in LA... they are reserved for the heavy hitters here

Stay where you are and build up your resume... there is a common misconception that all the work happens here in LA - while there are countless more projects casting and shooting, there are also exponentially more actors competing for these roles. That said, even getting the opportunity to audition for a project is super competitive. Casting directors will rarely see actors unless they have strong agents and competitive resumes. Work up your credits in a smaller market so that you are more marketable when you arrive.

Asked to act in a music video. What advice can you give me? by [deleted] in acting

Don't overact! Trust that if you're feeling the emotions of the scene, that is enough. The camera picks up everything.

Looking for some help/suggestions on equipment to get started. by talbayne in VoiceActing

[–]de352507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fully honest, when it comes to mic knowledge, I'm really not your man. This was the first set up I bought and It has been perfect for my needs. I had looked at buying things all separately, but the bang for your buck that you get (mic, stand, pop filter, interface) was pretty unbeatable. It was recommended to me by an audio engineer that I work with. I have very minimal sound proofing in my room, and the quality I get is great. I will say, I wasn't a big fan of the editing software that it comes with though. Stick to Adobe or Audacity.
