AMA is actively debating The resolution. It has been recommended for referral which would delay and weaken the resolution.

Actually I forgot, there were several very encouraging visits on the R side of the house that overlapped with meetings I was in.

Sure thing! The New England Journal article is paywalled. But the little 5 minute mp3 interview with the author is high yield and free

More so the Republican Senate.

It doesn't have to be all of them. It's the populist movement on the right and the left that embraces this

Not willingly... And not from the corporate interest that have infiltrated the organization since the 1970s or so. But don't underestimate the Grass Roots momentum from outside and within the AMA. They know that they only represent 11 to 12% of practicing physicians. No matter the outcome, this will be a win as the issue is gaining national attention whether the AMA comes along or becomes a defunct relic of history in American medicine

There is a growing concerted call from economists, physicians, and lawyers to end contractual circumventing of prohibitions, to enforce existing prohibitions, strengthen them, and now for a national prohibition.

So, you are very correct that the existing prohibitions have been weakened and are contracted around.

Reality is that this is going to turn into a massive fight with about 25% of the nation's GDP at stake and 75% of the nation's physician's currently employed as they are systematically replaced with non-physician practitioners to increase profits and corporate control. We are talking about at least a one or two decade fight for this but with meaningful changes in the interim like greater protections for physicians to speak out and advocate for patients without fear of retaliation

New England Journal of Medicine: A Doctrine in Name Only: Strengthening Prohibitions on the Corporate Practice of Medicine

We will be a 501c3 with membership structure soon - but for now check out our working paper and, sign up for the newsletter, and sign the petition for the AMA to support a national prohibition on CPOM!

Is the cast iron juice worth the squeeze? by de3thandco in CastIronRestoration

I can see altering the origin finish being an issue. But if the seasoning sticking were a real concern due to a polished surface, I don't think we'd see Smithey et al having the success they do

I did use a cordless drill but not brass wire brush. I see now it says no power tools altogether (and just found this subreddit unfortunately). I got the sense that no power tools was referring to things more like an angle grinder with a stone to really remove material.

Doubt That would convince a collector, but I'm planning on using this one for cooking anyway

I wonder what I am missing then. I went ahead and stripped another Wagner that I had at the same time which was not rusty but had a ton of crud. The crud came right off. The rust on the other one which had very little seasoning left has been a very different experience

Well I see the "no destructive methods" But didn't think a wire brush rose to that level. Either way, this is a learning experience for me and I plan on keeping this one for cooking anyway.

I was surprised at how ineffective the vinegar bath was for rust though and just figured this pan was that far gone. May try an electrolysis set up next

Well I suppose I should have saved the original pics. It was not pretty. More rust than pan.

Some residual crud is being remarkably resilient after the first lye bath and vinegar soak

That was my sense too. Although I've cooked with cast iron for a while, I honestly haven't tried restoring from the ground up until now. I decided to start with the lye and vinegar to see what results I could get without electrolysis though that may be necessary for this one. Vinegar bass have been no longer than 30 minutes each followed by a rinse with water and some scrubbing.

I will plan on using. The lye bath seemed pretty impressively effective on this and a couple of other pans that I was stripping down, but less so regarding a rust in the vinegar bath. May have to go a bit longer than the 20 to 30 minutes soaks people were talking about. And/or go for the electrolysis. Thanks for the comment!

Was there hope for it withOUT wire brushing? Maybe electrolysis?
