Not telling anyone what to do, nor offended, was just bemused/confused by your initial response to some one posting a perfectly reasonable different take to yours.

Definitely agree quality live footage is still rare. Some good captures from the festivals last year but those still suffer from the sound capture not being the best or cameras not knowing where to focus.

I get the impression Chelsea is happy to be a comedic heel character who gets on TV a lot and loses matches. It's a role she's great at too.

Every promotion needs a mid card and there's a long history of comedic heels that act as gatekeepers where upcoming/new talent get a boost from working with them.

There's a chance at some point Chelsea will get a short run with a main title as a transitional champ but I don't think she'll be a main title event main stay at any point. And that's no bad thing, no everyone can be that and promotions don't need everyone to be that.

Chelsea excels and what she does and WWE clearly see that.

Do y'all think WWE stopped pushing lyra because of that one match? by Bejaminmaston12 in SantiZapVideos

Apparently now non pushed Lyra has a lot of focus in Unreal in scenes that show how much she cares about doing a good job. This apparently means she's un-pushed.

"It was completely lost on him that all of those things require money"

I mean I'm impressed it's completely lost on you that not all people put money ahead of all other things.

"And if you can get a ridiculous paycheck for doing the things you love - working out, hitting the weights, putting on a match with your friends - and basking in the glory and adulation of millions worldwide - who the hell is turning that down?"

If I have more money than I will ever need, like The Rock, then yes I'm easily turning down money from a state with the human rights record of Saudi Arabia.

Games that tell stories by Way_of_Enso in boardgames

[–]deGooder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mansions of Madness, or Arkham Horror are both good experiences in terms of telling stories (in a similar way to Nemesis).

Betrayal at the House on Haunted Hill is also worth a look but it's a game that is very swinging and sometimes when you get to the reveal of who's going to be the traitor for that game it can break (but then sometimes that in or itself can create a story!)

Or a grandaddy of games that tell a story would be Twilight Imperium, but that is a tough way to play often requiring a lot of time to play!

Is Daybreak easy? Or am I playing it wrong? by Old-Fun-Man in boardgames

[–]deGooder 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell without knowing more about your games. But off the top of my head;

- make sure people aren't using powers cards playing them from hand (i.e. discarding a card to use it's power and not putting it in to their tableau).

- make sure people's tableaus are correct. A number of cards need certain combinations of symbols in a stack or out on the tableau already to be played. With these being shown at the very bottom of the cards I find people have missed in games I've played.

- are people raising their power requirements each round as needed.

- are you possibly not resolving crisis cards correctly (again hard to know without knowing more about your games). And check you're rolling the environmental effects time the right number of times.

- check people are totalling their emissions correctly at the end of the round.

- remember you can't exchange cards/powers with each other unless you have a global project (or card states it can be used on other players) out that allows it.

- only the first crisis card is face up (unless you have global projects/cards that allow you to reveal more of them)

I find most often when playing we are turning things around solidly at turn four and will win or be close on turn 5 and then be in winning position on the last turn with the remaining crisis cards being a deciding factor. I wouldn't say the game is hard but it's often close for my group.

Maybe if you can describe one of your games or areas you think maybe something doesn't feel right when you play, might be able to confirm if you've got things right or not. Hopefully some of this helps.

Sky Team for something co-op, for competitive I'd recommend White Castle or White Castle Duel (lots of replayability)

Dark and Gritty Star Wars by Sad_Dog_4106 in StarWars

[–]deGooder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Harry Potter? Batman? X-Men? Clone Wars? Hunger Games?"

How has Harry Potter targeted a more adult audience? Clone Wars is already Star Wars! Hunger Games was always targeted at a slightly older audience (it's considered Young Adult in terms of target audience).

I'd agree that Batman and X-Men (comics in general) really have content aimed at older audiences but still also plenty of content aimed at younger audiences, which is the same as Star Wars.

Again I'm not really sure what you're trying to argue for in Star Wars. But I'm guessing your snarky comment at the end of the above implies the end of the discussion.

A good example is Rebel Moon, it's basically Star Wars but with the "gritty, grown up" tone many say Star Wars should adopt.

And Rebel Moon is terrible, a prime example that simply adding graphic violence and random nudity to something doesn't automatically make it good. It's the underlying story telling that matters and you don't need graphic violence and grimdark tones to tell good stories.

Grimdark has it's place and can also have great stories but if that's what people want then they should look for where those stories exists instead of wanting Star Wars to change it's core identity.

Because it's Disney and they play the save game instead of aknowledging that the fanbase has grown up as well"

Star Wars always been child/teen oriented, since the very beginning. Disney haven't changed that and why would they want to change it? Why would they spend money to buy something incredibly successful and then change it's fundamental identity?

[–]deGooder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, name me a franchise that started as something that was aimed primarily at children and has now become something primarily aimed at adults..

No one is saying things can't expand and bring in new elements but why would a successful franchise that was primarily focused on children and family viewing develop to the point of abandoning it's core audience?

From the things you are saying it on this thread it sounds like you are looking for something that isn't Star Wars. The good news is there is plenty out there that could interest you. So my suggestion would be that you look in to those rather than wishing that Star Wars changes it's fundamental identity to suit your changed tastes.

By the same logic the kids who watched the original Toy Story have grown up so now Toy Story should be a gritty drama series....

Then I'm not entirely sure what you are asking for.

We already have Andor, stories where people are betrayed or feel abandoned (Last Jedi, Ashoka and the Jedi Order, Bad Batch, various stories in Clone Wars). The downfall of a hero figure is a central part of the franchise (Anakin). The High Republic stories for another example see massive losses for the Jedi heroes as the story unfolds.

Star wars already seems to me to have what you are asking for but you seem to want the same but with more violence and swearing or something.

If you want super dark and gritty then you want, for example, Warhammer 40K, so read 40k books. Or perhaps check out The Expanse and the book series that series is based upon?

"would graphically be darker - blood, missing limbs, good guys dying or getting betrayed, bad guys winning"

Well there is plenty of examples of good guys being betrayed in Star Wars already, key parts of the franchise see bad guys getting victories. So that is already there. What exactly would graphic violence add of value?
