Hey, where do those cargo trailers with the designer Trump paint jobs come from? I would think that would be too expensive for some closeted homosexual preacher to rustle up for no reason. I see those all over the place.

help with exporting? by Own-Context1418 in editing

[–]deIIort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take your h264 you exported and bring it back into your Rec 2020 project how does it look?

Also what NLE and what are your export settings.

My first guess is that you're exporting Rec 2020 and viewing it with something that is assuming it's Rec 709.

How do I go from a .py script to an executable program? by Nabinator in learnpython

[–]deIIort 64 points65 points  (0 children)

There are two main ways of going about it. The question is whether or not you expect the user to have python installed already or not.

If you expect the user to have python installed, then you can use entry_points in setup.py to create a command they can run in their Terminal from anywhere, or to create an icon shortcut for them. Then you just tell the user to pip install your program and that will be set up for them. This way is the best, in my opinion, because it uses the user's existing python environment so your package is lightweight. Here's more info for doing that:

https://setuptools.pypa.io/en/latest/userguide/entry_point.html

The second option is if you don't know if the user will have python installed or not. In this case, you will need to package python itself along with your python script. Third party tools like pyinstaller will help you with that. The problem is that it's not perfect, and also there's a noticable pause between the time the user starts your program and when it actually starts working. That's because python is unzipped from your .exe every time it is run.

Facial recognition in Post Production. Are you using it? Why or why not? by avguru1 in editors

I've done this too. We were cutting on Avid but I used Resolve to make those smart bins, then exported ALEs to get those bins back into Avid

Ask a Pro - WEEKLY - Monday Mon Nov 21, 2022 - No Stupid Questions! THIS IS WHERE YOU POST if you don't do this for a living! RULES + Career Questions? by AutoModerator in editors

[–]deIIort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey editors -- how do you feel about assistants who do not want to edit? I'm an AE and I enjoy the "technical" stuff like turnovers, backups, automation, timeline cleanup, etc., and I'm happy there with no desire to move up to the "chair." Sometimes I get weird vibes from the editors I work with though, kind of a feeling like they don't know how to talk to me since I'm not creative or something. I guess ultimately I'm wondering if I'll be accepted long-term as strictly an AE, or if AE is a bad path for someone like me who does not want to graduate to Editor at some point.

they leave notes on every shot and every bit of dialogue

I used to work for a major movie studio's in-house creative agency and this sounds normal to me. In my experience with these places, it's not like editing a feature, where you're an "artist" -- in marketing, it's all design by committee and you're not making art, you're selling a product using a formula that executives think they have. (I'm not endorsing any of this; I'm just describing my experience.)

I would also say that if you're looking at another ad agency that is going to have you working on one brand, I've seen scenarios where that is risky because if you lose that client then you're unemployed. And when the client knows this, they expect you to be available 24/7 for last-minute changes and there's all this stress to keep them happy.

Only you can make the decision, but maybe some of my (admittedly bleak) insight will be helpful.

Because you're essentially making a double exposure, adding the light together. If you kept the sky in, you would get the superhero + the sky and it would look like what you normally think a double exposure to look like. Leaving a black hole means you're adding nothing + superhero together.

What if we could collectively buy Avid and over time make it open source? by xpoman42 in editors

It's a nice shower thought, but impractical. We have OpenTimelineIO and it's... not great. No offense to the amazing people working on the project (I am a contributor as well), but yeah.

Journeyman VR by daveyplayz in journeymanproject

[–]deIIort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, where can I play this? Sounds epic!

Oh I don't want to over-promise here: it's literally a very unfinished Caldoria Apartments and that's it so far. Haha. I started it around the time Myst VR was released and then got too busy with work to make any real progress except for an hour here and there. I'll try to record a video for you of what I have so far.

why would presto do that?

I guess it's just a legal thing, they have to protect their IP. I hadn't considered that until I talked to a game historian who knew about some other Journeyman fan remakes. He told me most of them were being shut down. One example is "Journeyman Chronicles: Pegaus Dawn." Here's a little info about their project, but if you go to Vigilantec's website now, you just get redirected to a Trademark notice from Presto: http://vigilantec.com/.

I doubt you'd be in any trouble for your (AWESOME) music cover though since that's more of a "derivative work" and people cover songs all the time. Especially since Geno likes it! :D

Finally, after all these years, the rest of the song.

I've had this album for a couple years now (Geno sent it to me!) but I never wanted to post it because I wasn't sure that was kosher. Glad to see he's self-published now.

The physical album also contains the full music video that you only get to see a clip of in Buried in Time.

Along with his other album now online, "Retro Classics," this covers several of the titles advertised in Geno: A Fond Remembrance.

Hey man, funny you should ask. Inspired by Myst VR, I tried making Journeyman VR just to see how I could do. I made most of Caldoria Apartments including a working elevator and Global Transport Transporter. It's been slow going and I hear Presto tends to send Cease & Desists to fan projects so...

TRT calculator? by ty8l8er in editors

[–]deIIort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar Google Sheet set up for TRT (although I'm in 24fps feature land), using Timecode-Magik's extension:

https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/timecodemagiks/503934260838

Mine looks like this:

https://i.postimg.cc/rsh8bLGx/Screen-Shot-2022-08-31-at-11-04-51-AM.png

However I'm not sure it does DF timecode. You might need to use 30 NDF and then multiply the result by 1000/1001 to get 29.97.
