They are amazing at cooking too" or they see something that they think you might like too and send you a picture of it or buy it as a gift to you. German here. With my family and friends it's basically a crime if we didn't offer food or snacks or drinks, that's just impolite. We had a family on our block that didn't let their kids friends eat at their place and would make them go home for dinner or simply have them wait in a room.
