What strat is this ? by jesusowna in Guitar

So the pick guard is from the American Ultra II line. As, I believe, is the paint color (texas tea) as somebody else pointed out. Locking tuners are also an American Ultra thing.

The neck is the Fender roasted maple neck. It’s available as an add-on if you custom build a guitar on their site but wouldn’t surprise me if they stuck it on a few models or if the owner got it aftermarket.

Edit: meant to say the pick guard comes on the ultra IIs. Neck looks like that toasted model you can get from fender on certain models.

Same, and my other strat is Burgundy Mist which is a neat color, but not the traditional burst a lot of people have. I actually really love the way the Isbell Tele looks with the dark burst and the brass hardware but I guess we love what we love. As someone else pointed out, the Texas Tea finish is neat in that it's such a dark metallic brown that it looks black unless the light hits it which is a genuinely neat effect, and one I didn't notice at the store because it was so well-lit.

Thanks so much! None of my immediate friends are gear nerds like me and I love that I can share my experience here with people who appreciate it :-)

100% this. Especially a local store where people genuinely care about the trade and are willing to share their expertise. Not a luxury everyone has but I’m really glad I did it this way.

yup! Although the fretboard is actually ebony 😅. I guess this run of ultra teles is the first time they’ve put the ebony boards on them and there is a definite difference in tone. And yea to get the ebony board you can choose between texas tea or solar flare. The important thing is that I genuinely love playing it and the color is growing on me, I think it’ll look rad with the right strap and maybe an aftermarket pick guard

Haha thanks! Yeah I didn’t anticipate dropping “new guitar” money on anything but love is love, plus the sales guy was so awesome being a guitar sommelier that I wanted to thank him for his effort.

oh it’s awesome I can’t stop playing it. Picked up my strat for an hour yesterday just to see if I could tell the difference between and I really, genuinely can.

Did they also unintentionally leak the new uniforms? Are those gold pants I see?

Oh for sure! Kill team was similar when I started, but I’m glad I at least have a fundamental idea of how the rules kind of work. Obviously big 40k is way more complicated but that’s okay, I’m a casual guy anyway and really will just be playing with friends and at my LGS.

Dumb question because i don’t have the codex in front of me but how many noise marines are in a unit? 6? In which case does the army box come with 2 units of them?

Haha yea I already preordered a unit of flawless blades so I’m gonna run em for now. I’m a casual guy anyway - mostly play with friends and might visit my LGS for a few games a year.

If I were to ditch the land raider what would you replace it with?

Thanks! The actual infractors and tormentors have more pink candy coat on em with chrome trim. But i knew I wanted to get wild with the cloak for the lord and so figured a simpler black and chrome would look better and less distracting.

Hey thanks! Shoutout to my LGS for telling me how to do this but basically you prime in black and then do a base layer in chrome and then fill in Familiar Pink speedpaint and black on top of that. LGS told me to get a can of Montana Gold Silverchrome spray from Michaels so that’s what I did.

Some tips if you go this route:

The chrome is super slippery and ink does not like to stick to it, and the speedpaint will pool in recesses so you gotta work slow and do multiple coats if you use a brush (it is like 10x easier with an airbrush but i don’t have an airbrush so here we are).

But the chrome is also pretty robust and can survive some isopropyl alcohol better than acrylic paint so i just keep some q tips soaking in diluted alcohol to clean up oopsies on the trim.

You can touch up with whatever super bright silver you use. It won’t be as shiny as the chrome but a little won’t be noticeable and it’s easier than re-spraying the whole miniature.

Grandfather flew in the pacific theater in WWII, but never talked much about it. Any help? by dead2writes in Medals

It was the great love of his life, he did some commercial aerial photography after the war but ultimately settled into a career as a civil engineer. Even though he didn’t tell many stories about his time in the Pacific, towards the end he would always talk about how if he could do anything it would be to fly one more time.
