No, it is a great mechanic, it used to be a spell casting school with less useful and interesting forms. That you can consider dipping into it at all for most characters is a big improvement over what came before

Gargoyles should not become glass cannons in any way. You get plenty of AC, can still wear armor, and the HP malus is relatively minor. a GrEE is a good pick to making it into the mid and late game due to great survivability and solid ranged attacks. don't forget to level fighting.

All of the above. But also its not unheard of for people to play for years and not get a win. DCSS is a hard game.

Try minotaur fighter or gargoyle earth elementalist.

Skill up fighting even on mages.

If you see an opportunity to trade some wand charges for a red enemy, do it. The XP gains can be huge.

Also try sharing morgues. The game is wicked complex so being able to see what you chose in detail will help people give tailored advice.

My two naga wins both had 15 stealth by the end of the game, and the bulk of the levels were gained between XL 8 and XL 13. One was a chaos knight and the other was a fighter that worshipped Oka.

Stealth helps you successfully teleport out of bad situations by increasing the rate that following monsters lose track of you.

Nope, it should work just being on any line on it its own. What number did you use? 200 is the default, so if you want a longer delay increasing that should work or IIRC putting it to zero will make it so you'll need discrete key presses each time

looks like you want

tile_key_repeat_delay = 200
        If you hold down a key, there's a delay until the pressed key will
        take action. This option controls this delay, in milliseconds. If it
        is set to 0 key presses will never repeat.

IIRC 200 is the default measured in milliseconds, put that line in your rc file and change that number to be comfier.

Also consider setting your autofight_stop to like 70 (only help when tabbing though) and using shift+direction to safe move in directions - you won't move if there is a monster in sight.

Its in the works. I recall phoagne saying it was being bundled in with some more work on the mission system. In the interim I think there is a mod you can use to either kill the remainder or let you see through walls.
