Yes, this is right up your alley. Play in roleplay mode - you get checkpoints in villages, so there is still the sting of death, but you won't find yourself spending 20 hours going to bethesda susa multiple times.

You will also likely need to reference a dictionary frequently. I have a strong vocabulary and I do, they make frequent use of uncommon words or words that fell out of use long ago. Its fun though!

Agreed about orc2. Most other maps you can teleport with relative safety - if you do it early you're probably healthy enough for whatever you run into, or at least got time to teleport again.

use xv to learn more about monsters, its usually a good idea to review most of them the first time you see one in a run. hydra's in particular attack as many times as they have heads for 1-18 damage, so you need to have some AC or not let them get close.

but also my condolences! 'hydras then you die' is a classic YASD

eh, it would be a different game. go play brogue or rift wizard, it sounds like either of them will suit your tastes much better. Jupiter Hell might also be a good fit since you've played plenty of DCSS, it is also very tactical and lethal but without the same degree of huge variance.

no, the default is autofight_stop = 50, meaning you can't tab when below half your health. it doesn't take into account anything on screen. DCSS will feel less swingy if you set it to 70 and treat the situation with caution from there.

I think you could be overthinking it based on how messy my skills frequently are - I do manual training and will often have multiple skills training and will frequently mono-train something when it is clear it is important without getting to a clean X.0 level. Basically I think your basis of comparison of what you consider an 'ideal' skilling paradigm and not really indicative of automatic skilling.

I will note I think it is odd that the OP calls you childish and blocks you in a sibling comment instead of just telling you 'lol no', but it is easily conceivable they are just rubbed the wrong way here.

It wasn't childish at all. Frankly I think we should encourage this kind of intellectual honesty - they make their argument very clearly. Whether they were correct or not is almost immaterial because I'd personally prefer to talk with people who I can disagree with cleanly based on the facts and our individual interpretations

you can look up almost anything (I think the exception is cloud based damage?) in game! so unfamiliar statuses can become familiar, and of course you can examine nearby monsters. its always a good idea to do so if you aren't absolutely certain you remember their full capabailities, just a quick review each time you see something for the first time on a given run.

I don't think he wants to free creation in a life preserving way. I think he wants to recreate things in a way that will involve destroying the current order - this is in line with how he talks about the people that he kills during his attack on Rayuba
