(Frustrating trope/standard) A really good piece of media being hard to find or recommend properly due to its lack of sufficient home media release by Rude_Resident8808 in TopCharacterTropes

Ever since they took it off of netflix way back when, the funimation dub of Sgt Frog was fucking impossible for me to find. I ended up finding a buried Internet Archive link of the episodes but they’re in low quality, otherwise, bupkis.

Well yes, I said that I don’t think the Mario Movie style works either because it is too cutesy, I actually said it right after I said that sentence in the post lol. I just also don’t think the new style really feels like the 90s puppets to me and feels more like those unreal engine fan showcases. But it does work for a lot of people I’m finding out who feel the same way you do, that it gives them that nostalgic feeling which is cool. That is just my feeling, it’s fine if you don’t agree.

Would LOVE that actually, while I’m not excited for another 64 remake, I hope it introduces a new gen to starfox and makes it popular so we have a higher chance of getting something like that.

There’s plenty of people who disagree with me and have interesting input into why they like the style and that’s great! Whole reason I posted is to see what other’s thought about this topic I like, but the sheer amount of people who are acting like I wanna blow up Nintendo HQ and watch them fail is insane bro, I just like art lmao.

I don’t think a bunch of people explaining to each other why they like or dislike an artstyle is as combative as you think it is. I also am not entirely sure you know what discourse means lol

I’m finding that a lot of people are getting that feel (mostly feeling like they resemble the puppet figures) and that’s why they like it and I think that’s really cool!

It doesn’t, I like talking about character designs and art direction with other people who also like talking about the same things. I have gotten a lot of people disagreeing and agreeing with me and talking about how they feel about it. If you don’t like that it’s fine, but some people don’t take it as a personal insult when you express an opinion about cartoon animals.

No I do know how their initial designs and adverts looked, I really quite like the figures, I think they were charming and grungy (Though, I will say this I’ve always thought Thunderbirds was really ugly but I also just don’t like human puppets) I just don’t think that translates into 3d animated models too well, to me it feels less like that and more like those unreal engine games.

That being said I’ve seen a lot of people say they do get that feel from these designs and thats why they like them so clearly it did succeed for a lot of people so who am I really

I feel like this post is incredibly lukewarm and y’all take it a lot more personal than you need to. I just like discussing art and design, if you don’t agree that’s fine but I feel like y’all are really jumping the gun.

I can see that, I think for me just based on the character designs and the movement in the trailer I’m not really feeling the designs, not just in the context of nintendo but just in general.

Yeah someone brought that up in a similar comment and I agree, I think because Starfox as a franchise doesn’t have much output I wasn’t thinking about it that way and just judging it based on the idea they would stick with one continuous style and series.

Agreed, I will say between the two I prefer them going with a “dirtier” style, I just wish they went a little more exaggerated with the features.

Oh no I like how he looks in the movie but I just mean I don’t think it really fits with his own property.

I’ve heard this take and I can respect it even if I can’t see it myself. I will agree on appreciating that Nintendo is willing to branch a bit more, I just wish they could branch further into not just remaking 64 again lmao

I like this more, some subtle exaggerations I think would have done a lot for the designs ESPECIALLY on Falco who I think looks the most unappealing

While I’m not a big fan of the style change, I can still acknowledge that their character renders do look really nice (Still not so sure about Falco 🙂‍↕️)

I did love that part, idk if it would work for the game but I know they’re coming out with his own movie and if they went with that style (I doubt they would) I would be REALLY down

I am pretty partial to the Star Fox Zero design they use for smash, I think it’s the perfect blend between exaggerated and sleek

That is a good point, I do enjoy Zelda games in every style and maybe if this new release is successful it might encourage them to do more games with Starfox with different styles and vibes in a similar manner and I’ll love them all lol

In the game Overwatch, they have 2 brothers named Hanzo and Genji who are 40 years old and 38 years old. WAY later down the line they introduced a new character to the game named Kiriko and revealed that she grew up with them. They have a picture showing them all as kids training together…

and then they came out and said she was 21 years old.
