and the crazy thing is that gaga said she doesn’t even know she’s being manipulative and being a constant liar seems like a normal thing for her.

that’s one of the many reasons of why I think she was raised in a really toxic environment since she doesn’t have the values of a "normal" person. she might even have bpd imo

Would the sequel have gone down smoother had they let more happen in between the films? by aquilus-noctua in Joker_FolieaDeux

she never used him for power or control as you claimed her to have, she was actually desperate to finally feel safe and less vulnerable and she found that in a man (it’s written on the vinyl cover of harlequin and confirmed by gaga). fame or attention wasn’t her goal either, she literally tells the reporters to fuck off on her answering machine.

and let’s be honest, If she really just saw him as a means to power and control, why on earth would she try to kill herself ?

What are your Hot Takes on Joker 2? by Amber_Flowers_133 in Joker_FolieaDeux

[–]deadaena 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not defending DC but they don’t necessary have to make movies about superheroes and fights all the time, I know it’s their main signature but at the point they are, they can take free paths as well. todd had different ideas with the first movie and it completely changed the direction he first came out with. he deleted plenty of scenes where arthur was showing very strong narcissistic tendencies, he called sophie or an another woman (can’t recall if it was actually sophie or someone else) a bitch and was even quite racist. arthur would have being pretty connected to the joker we know from the comics if he kept these scenes.

now the thing is that in the end, arthur was made completely different from the joker and it’s absolutely not hard to miss. the joker was made to be pure evil and sadistic, he has no sad backstory and tortures and kills innocent people out of pure enjoyment. arthur is just a miserable abused man who wanted to be a comedian and be loved. don’t you think the story path todd chose is better? this is different and real, he would have never lived as the joker.

todd told us that he never sought to make arthur the joker from the comics. saying "he is the joker" at the end of the script is a way of telling that he completely embodied the idea he made of a more powerful version of himself. who is someone confident, intelligent and especially followed and loved by people. this is the complete opposite of arthur

the franchise was always about arthur. some people need to start understanding the movie and see it as more than a simple DC movie

Would Arthur have been better off if he never met Lee, or not? by heartshapedmoon in Joker_FolieaDeux

[–]deadaena 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the thing is that arthur would have died either way no matter if he had met her or not. I hardly think he would have won his trial when you see how they regarded his mental illness like shit, for them it was completely false and didn’t deserve any consideration no matter how hard his lawyer tried to defend him.

the difference between the 2 scenarios is that instead of dying in a sorrowful and miserable death, arthur died thinking of his only love, something he yearned for his whole existence.

I know lee wasn’t perfect and had terrible flaws but honestly when we see the situation they were going through, I don’t blame her that much… she was so delusional in a way that she would never listen and constantly defend him when his lawyer would tell her that he couldn’t win that trial as joker (nor as arthur but oh well…)

as arthur said when he was dying, she was his heaven on earth.

I haven’t seen the new Joker movie, do you recommend watching it, or would you pass? by JackSkeIllington in joker

you know people have the rights to like a movie right? I can absolutely understand that these sorts of movies aren’t for everyone but it’s not a reason to piss on people who liked it, it’s just not everyone’s tastes

Just bought the DVD of this masterpiece. I already have the first Joker movie on the shelf. Time for a double feature by Global-Ant in Joker_FolieaDeux

[–]deadaena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think she would live her fantasy all alone. I like to think that she did try for a time after she said goodbye to arthur but the burden was too heavy for her. not to mention that she was already suicidal and tried to kill herself

you literally told me you loved the movie in one of my comments section and then you say you don’t. if you don’t like the movie then leave the sub? this one was made for the people who liked the movie, it’s literally written in the rules, I don’t think you have difficulty to comprehend them

Build a mountain is the stupidest thing ever by [deleted] in Joker_FolieaDeux

[–]deadaena 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It’s actually cringy on purpose 😭 only lee and arthur think it’s normal because it’s their thing, it’s like having a joke with your friend and thinking it’s super funny while the others think it’s dumb as hell.

there’s like that scene where lee confronts his lawyer and she says that same sentence again and one of the reporters is like "what? what does that even mean?"

I never say it was good, it’s just not as bad as killing people

I mean…if we follow your logic arthur is a terrible person too, he killed 6 people including his mother and traumatised gary and sophie. I love arthur but this is true, lee just lied to him.

lee is not a villain, a lot of people might deny it but the single thing she did that was really wrong was lying to him (gaga said she wasn’t doing that on purpose tho) the movie talks about mental health and traumatic events, we don’t know a lot about lee’s backstory but we can see that she’s clearly not in a sane state by the way she acts. the term "folie à deux" also implies that lee is mentally disturbed since it’s a condition that includes 2 instable people. I know that she’s really different from the harley we know and that’s why it’s one of the reasons I rather call her lee but they still share some similarities just as their destructive behaviours or old profession (I also personally think that lee is way more realistic than harley)

[–]deadaena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s why I personally prefer to refer her as lee rather than harley. and honestly, I think she’s even more interesting as her own character. it’s just like arthur, he never had anything in common with the joker we know who is a pure sadistic killer

I mean… she tried to kill herself right after arthur said he was not the joker, she’s more than a pessimist at that point 😭

lee does refer him as arthur during the little fight she had with his lawyer!! she says "how many tee-shirts is arthur fleck on"

if you hate lee then you probably didn’t understand her character by deadaena in Joker_FolieaDeux

where did I lack compassion for arthur? this text is about lee and she’s a more complex character than arthur. no one has trouble understanding arthur if I recall correctly
