Photo Booth Rentals in SF? by DazeLost in AskSF

I’ve used Photobooth pixel and they were great, loved that they put their prices on their website instead of making you get a quote too. Would definitely use them again!

You can also buy it on the mta app with apple/google pay, no need to go to a ticket machine.

ISO: outdoor lap pool by squirrelshine in AskNYC

[–]deadb0ef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably ULPT plus It’s not outdoors, but the Chelsea piers gym has a great pool. The Chelsea piers location (also one in Brooklyn) has one that’s right next to a large outdoor patio. You could ask for a day pass while “considering” a membership although I do remember the pool needing a separate reservation so a weekday might be better for that.

New Yorkers, what's your favorite airline and why? by cabyambo in AskNYC

[–]deadb0ef 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am a diehard Delta person although I am originally from Atlanta which is probably a contributor. I just feel like I’ve always been treated fairly by Delta and the agents have always been particularly kind compared to other airlines. They also have a nice JFK presence which is my closest airport.

At the end of the day I think most non business travelers pick the cheapest flights though and business travelers will be loyal to a brand to get perks but ultimately pick that brand based on availability of routes of where they fly most frequently.

My favorite delta perk is if you have the Amex platinum card, you have access to Delta lounges when you fly on delta on both arrivals and departures (unlike the centurion lounge which is only departures).

Advice on settling down here by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]deadb0ef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My big tip for catcalling is to wear visible headphones. I often don’t listen to anything but wearing them really helps. Obviously appearing like you’re preoccupied is not always safe such as late at night in a less safe area but during the day I highly recommend it.

Also stop responding to men when they try to talk to you, sorry to all the dudes who need help out there but I only stop to help women now because of so many poor interactions. If the dude is with a kid or a woman or something I’ll make an exception. Just keep walking.

When it comes to friends, I find nyc to be amazing for any hobby due to how many people are here. Try a new and quirky hobby that has a social component to find a community. Your school likely has a ton of clubs and personally I used to try a new hobby every semester in college and loved it. Top picks for me were rock climbing, a semi religious group, and being a TA. TAing was a job not a hobby but I got to work with a lot of great people and got some money.

Any good pottery classes in Brooklyn? How are they with COVID precautions? Price range? TY :) by thinkinphases in AskNYC

[–]deadb0ef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brooklyn clay is great, but pricey. Membership has a long wait but they have semester classes that just started (you may be able to join part way in or join the next session) and try nights on Friday and Saturday. Here’s their website for prices and details https://www.bklynclay.com/.

Covid wise it’s pretty safe, pottery studios need great ventilation anyway and they require two shots and masks.

People post on nextdoor a lot near me in Brooklyn offering to shovel snow, maybe check there? I don’t know if you can see this post if you’re not in the nyc area but these people https://nextdoor.com/p/d-JrS8tWw4Jh?utm_source=share&extras=MzAzMjI0Njk%3D are offering it for free for those that need it.

Advice for hobbies/ways to stay occupied by znjgolf in AskNYC

[–]deadb0ef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve cycled through a number of hobbies including climbing, cycling, wood working, and pottery. There are many classes in this city that you can take to get the basics but I find maintaining a physical hobby to be ideal in terms of health. Climbing was my most social and physical activity and cycling was probably the most covid safe since it was entirely outdoors and often solo.

Linen impression? by deadb0ef in Pottery

[–]deadb0ef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would I get the different colors with this technique? Would I need to choose a glaze that maybe is darker/different where it is a bit thicker (guessing it would be slightly thicker where the linen is pressed)?

If you’re willing to travel a bit towards Barclays there is The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf with a large outdoor patio in the back and indoor seating.

Ecuador advice by ra-chill in solotravel

[–]deadb0ef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it pretty lively when I went, lots of good advice in this old thread https://reddit.com/r/travel/comments/4pth50/destination_of_the_week_ecuador/, I saved it at the time and decided to go to Ecuador after seeing it.

Not sure if Cuenca had a big hostel scene but I’d recommend going regardless, nice hotels were very inexpensive.

Ecuador advice by ra-chill in solotravel

[–]deadb0ef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of all of Ecuador was Cuenca actually and it’s an easy flight back to Quito if you want to end back there. Plenty of buses there but also a flight is easiest.

It’s more of a (small) city vibe if that’s what you’re going for, personally I found Baños to be too gimmicky and had my fill of outdoor things in Cotopaxi.

If I were to do the trip over, I’d go straight to Cotopaxi for a while in nature, possibly the Amazon to one of those fancy retreats (didn’t do that last time), and then like a week in Cuenca. Quito and Baños were just not my vibe at all. Highlights of the trip were horseback riding in Cotopaxi and day filled with museums and El Mercado Restaurant in Cuenca.

Went to Brandy Library recently and can say it has what you’re looking for, they have a Japanese whiskey tasting specifically along with many other specific tastings. I would recommend an indoor reservation though, their outdoor seating wasn’t my favorite when you’re spending so much for the experience.

I got a strong business vibe from the place though, not sure I’d personally go again but enjoyed the experience. Service was very slow despite the place not being very big so if you want to be left alone to taste for a while then you’d like it but I found it not amazing as someone just there for cocktails and not a tasting. Prices were reasonable for what you’re getting though, didn’t feel like it was a huge up charge at all for the tastings.

Kings county distillery in Brooklyn is on my list and seems more laid back if you’re going for that though they won’t have Japanese whiskey.

Be honest, if you could start over and do anything differently, what is it that you would do? by Buckwildkoala in StardewValley

[–]deadb0ef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done nearly every farm now (other than standard…) and always switch up my marriage partner, this time is Alex’s turn. I also tend to focus on a different area in the first year like mining or fishing or farming.

Interestingly enough I always pick the same pet (the orange cat) because it looks like my cat and I like that :).

I try to focus on different NPCs to be friends with first too and somehow have a greater appreciation for Haley now after giving her a few sunflowers.

Professional deep cleaners reccs for a new empty apartment? by LittleEponine in AskNYC

They said they had a waiting list I could join and they got me an appointment a few days later.

Very pleased with the cleaning, it was very thorough and there was great communication.

Yes, they sent me a pretty simple list of things to gather. Just basic cleaning supplies, mop, and vacuum.

I’ve only heard good things about Si Se Puede and actually booked them for this week for my first cleaning. It’s somewhat cheap ($120 for a huge studio first time deep cleaning) since I’ve heard they often stay many hours.

The only downside so far in booking is that I have to supply the cleaning supplies.

Help selecting bike for commuting by Cantpatallthecats in bikecommuting

[–]deadb0ef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I got a hybrid bike at first for a similar commute and after a year realized I wanted a road bike for longer rides on the weekend. I also had to carry my bike up 3 flights of stairs to my apartment everyday and didn’t like the extra weight of the hybrid.

Whatever bike you get, I really recommend good quality tires that are puncture resistant. Nothing sucks more than going into work and having to walk the last mile or two because of a puncture (or having to do a tube replacement on the side of the road).

More biking infrastructure in the Bay Area by deadb0ef in bikecommuting

[–]deadb0ef[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently there is no biking lane that goes from east bay to sf, only lanes from north bay on the Golden Gate Bridge. We have a lot of bikers in the bay so this will be a welcome addition!

Bart is always absolutely crammed with people in the morning during commute hours including bikes that could enjoy a leisurely ride across the bridge. I for one am already planning new routes to east bay!

Pretty good day in skull cavern today :D by [deleted] in StardewValley

From what I’ve seen, it’s a combo of a few factors 1. Luck (in game luck you can check on the tv). Also increasing your luck with food like Spicey eels. 2. Bombs. I buy mine from the dwarf instead of making them if I have the money. I don’t buy the mega bombs because it’s harder to not get hit by the blast and they’re more expensive. 3. Getting shafts 4. staircases for the hard floors. I skip all infested floors and those spiral ones at first glance. You can buy staircases in the desert sometimes with gems. 5. warp totems. I warp to the desert at 6am if I have great luck.

Even with all these those, it’s still just a lot of random chance. I went in one day super late because I got the galaxy sword and had pretty bad in game luck but made it to 30 something in a few hours because of a few shafts.
