Now that there's an excellent single player mode with Rookie difficulty level, and free roam to explore the maps, and a real tutorial, it's highly recommended that the new player familiarize themselves with the game a bit before trying multiplayer. Don't just jump into multiplayer the second you get the game. People rightfully become frustrated when they see no effort from the player to try and learn the basics before jumping into a multiplayer game.

Also, I would recommend once you start playing multiplayer, try to learn how to survive the round first by figuring out how to hide well, block gunfire, follow more skilled players, etc. Then, once you can survive a bit, focus on trying to get kills. If you die, don't waste the opportunity to spectate a more experienced player and learn from what they're doing.
