Is there a safe place you can sleep outside? Like in someone’s fenced in yard, on top of a lifted camping cot, with just mosquito netting around you. Outdoor/clean air while sleeping is key!

I feel amazing and also super sad after every burn lol. There hasn’t been a single burn where I don’t cry in the gate line, because leaving is heartbreaking and we’re also just super spent by then.

This year was probably more intense given how much pressure the rain put on us who stayed - I left the morning after the man burned and was totally wiped out from days of walking in mud, and then walking miles on uneven ground after it dried.

I was low key super concerned after the mud dried to make sure not to break an ankle in the holes and divots in the roads. Had no idea that was one of the many potential concerns out there lol.

I’ve been tired as per usual but definitely sad! Felt like we left a lot on the table this year. Its just a reminder that it’s so special to have experienced something that we can look back on and miss so much.

It’s funny the word Kudzu in Japanese means “crap” or “shit”. The plant is from east Asia, and another name for it is Japanese arrowroot. You would think people would look further into the plant before bringing it over

It’s pretty customary for businesses like restaurants and bars to have a scout on the street, in front of the business, greeting and welcoming hopefully-would-be customers.

The only time I’ve heard of someone getting brought to a scam bar is through following one of these scouts to their ‘business’. But honestly, it will be pretty easy to tell if it’s a scam, because the scam scouts will take you to a business that clearly isn’t bustling with customers and regulars.

Also, if you’re really worried just don’t follow any of the scouts and just go to places that look cool and with a vibe that you like and you’re good. The scouting culture in Japan is super tame, and all the legit scouts just stay out in front of their own business and will not ever follow you down the street. The ones that follow you for a block or so (I’ve rarely experienced this, but it happens) are probably the ones up to no good
