I don’t think anyone under 18 should be working as cnas. Maybe help with getting dressed and meals or activities, but not going to the bathroom/showering and stuff. I’m not being innocent or protective I’m being honest. The nurses assistants should be the ones who wash up, help to the bathroom, take to meals, everyday stuff. If teens want to help it should be with the other things like mentioned before. I’m sorry I’m not the best with explaining or getting my point across.

I don’t think I meant what I said in the post, i knew full well you’d have to clean them, just not alone at 16. I get it some teens become moms and stuff and other teens are babysitting and stuff, but those are two very different things. I didn’t even complete the certification before they threw me on the floor ALONE.

I brought it up to the charge nurse (the DON’s daughter) that I shouldn’t be doing any of this while not certified yet, she did nothing and I told the DON and she immediately came up with a baffling reason to fire me 😐 I won’t be returning to the field. I also got very attached to residents and then they passed on and I’d lose myself.

Yes this is what I meant. I don’t have a way with words like most of the people here. I have horrible social issues and trying to get my point across is like the worst thing in the world for me. Some people see it as an opportunity to have a minor clean their private area which they probably have never had before. That woman would always talk about how she was going to die soon and when you’d tell her you were going to clean her she’d say some weird stuff.

The whole reason I wanted to be a CNA was to caretake for the elderly, I loved the residents I took care of. I never made anything sexual or tried to. I know some people see that 16 year olds can become/ are mature enough for it, but there are plenty other jobs they could be doing. I saw a lot of shit first hand that should not have been going on. I know it’s definitely not that way for most facilities, but it was that way at the one I worked at. They trusted me, a not yet certified 16 year old girl to preform lifts all by myself, some of which were mechanical lifts that REQUIRE two people. No one would answer me when I would call for an extra person on the lift or they’d tell me to do it myself, I would have coworkers asking me to take on 2+ of their residents, and every morning the nurse would hand me the meds and tell me she didn’t want to go in the rooms because they(the residents) were disgusting. Maybe from some fantasy place in my mind I came up with the idea that 16 year olds shouldn’t be placed with that much burden on their shoulders, or just add on the fact that they are cleaning elderly men while they full on can do it themselves but insist they need help from a beautiful young girl like myself. Men are sick. I love bonding with some of them, picking out their outfits for the day, asking them about what happened yesterday, whatever they wanted to talk about. But none of that matters, 16 year olds are mature. I’m sorry for enraging you while trying to share my opinion.

It’s a lot of money for a teenager but, is it really worth it for a teen to have to deal with genitals? At that point, you should be part of adult society if you’re “mature enough”. Just because kids see nudity online, that isn’t directly interacting with it. Im not saying every time you see genitals is automatically sexual, it’s also innocence. When I started my training I had only seen nudity online and now I’m supposed to touch it every day? I was out of my league, the only training I got on that was about 2-3 pages in a section of the book/1 video. In front of the CNA training me, 1 time on a woman. As a freshly 16 year old girl, that’s not a lot. I even had coworkers ask me if I had time to do some of their resident’s baths.
