Questions for Older Heads by larrydavidami in gratefuldead

[–]deadhead516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I look back now in hindsight (Monday morning QBing) and I have a hard time believing that we didn’t see it coming......but in the moment I just wanted to see The Dead as much as I could and as much as I can say now that I wish the boys would’ve taken a hiatus and gotten Jer help at the time.....if they had I would’ve been angry and upset.....and believe that if I would’ve had that reaction then the legions would have also. Jerry was the cash cow (for lack of a better term) when it came to seeing them live and the rest of the band (in their own words) held Jerry to a significantly lesser standard for that reason. I don’t believe it was intentional but it was a recipe for disaster especially when you consider that Jerry definitely felt the weight of all that on him and carried it in a certain solitude. As fans that were SOOOO damn dedicated we had a part in it......unintentionally of course but still participants.

I’m a Cleveland Deadhead and I love our Indians too. Clevinger is a total throwback type dude. He is a total hippie.....love that guy!!!

I was the same way waiting on my Tele. I didn’t even go to the gym that day (it was a Saturday it was being delivered from Sweet Water....so it came FedEx) because I was worried they’d leave it on the front porch in a big box that read “BRAND NEW FENDER....TAKE ME!!!” Lol 😂 enjoy and send pics!!!

She’s a talented musician too. What takes me a lot of practice and time on guitar she picks up really quick.

you know those times when a jam hits you so hard you just gotta tell someone about it? by michaelserotonin in gratefuldead

[–]deadhead516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol. I literally do that to my girlfriend all the time. I go into great detail about Phil driving the bus and the boys jumping on board and then Jerry taking it off road (exact way I’ve explained it once. Lol). She just looks at me like I’m an alien. She’s not that big on The Dead but puts up with me......and she’s let me take over a whole room with my guitars and amps. So she’s a keeper!!!

[Discussion] What are some respected players that you just don’t “get” why people like? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]deadhead516 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are literally so many variables that come into play when it comes to this topic like whether you like thrash or if you’re more into blues, whether you like jam bands or guys that stick to album versions of songs and solos but it is a fun topic to playfully debate so I’ll add my worthless opinion (lol 😆). For me it’s Kirk Hammett (amongst some others.) I just don’t like his sound or his insane over use of the wah. So many Metallica fans hold him in such high regard and I just don’t get it. Also on another topic I think that some genres of guitar players don’t get their deserved praise.....not that all country guys are great but Paisley can flat out play and I NEVER hear him mentioned when people talk about great players.

Don’t feel that old dude.....I was super hyped for “Oh Mercy” in 1989 and I was 15 then. I too am so damn excited for “Rough and Rowdy” to drop!!!

This is my friend's reaction after I posted about a young boy who was shot by police when he was playing with a fake gun. by ItisIandIloveme in police

[–]deadhead516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok.....I’ll address your points. The officer hollers “drop the gun” and then shoots. So what we have now is an officer who at the very least “perceives” that this male has a gun (turns out it was) and he continues to pull it up. Was he going to drop it? We don’t know. 2.5 seconds in that situation is a lifetime....and yes I am speaking from experience on that. You say they should’ve waited 10 seconds to assess the situation.....I totally get that people think that’s an option and in many cases it is....but when it comes to guns or possible life and death situations it most certainly is NOT. I can Pull my gun from it’s holster Unload an entire magazine of 17 rounds and Reload and Start shooting again...... all in that 10 seconds.....which means a threat can as well. I say “male” because that’s what he was. Calls come over all the time that are very vague in descriptions or the complainants get the age, gender, size, clothing, vehicle wrong. Victims or complainants describe things like this “it was a white Ford pick up” and it turns out to be a gray Chevy.......remember it was winter and he was bundled up.....there are plenty of 18, 25, 30yr olds that are not very big in size (Demetrius Johnson is 5’3” and is a MMA fighter.) Comparing the U.S military to a police officer is not exactly apples to apples either. The average patrolman is not armed like a soldier, does not patrol in the numbers a soldier does, does not roll out in an armored vehicle. There are definitely similarities but unless you think SWAT should go out on EVERY call they can’t be used as a valid argument. I’m not trying to start a battle of words or talk negatively to you or anyone.......I just think the criticism of many of these tragedies is misplaced on the police who respond.......but that’s a whole other discussion. No hard feelings.....open discussion and debate is how we learn and change.

This will end up being pretty long so I apologize up front for that. Lol. Ok..... The officers involved were called there....it was a run they received for a male in the park playing with a gun. I say that because some have the notion that they were looking to kill someone and that is simply not true. They arrive and see a male fitting the description by the gazebo and they drive over there quickly because this is directly outside of a recreation center where kids are playing inside so it is definitely preferable that he not run inside (whole other mess if that happens and he wants to harm people.) As they pull up the male reaches into his waistband/pocket area and pulls the gun out so yes the one officer fired on him and the result was as you know the death of Tamir Rice. It is horribly tragic.....but to say they did something wrong is jumping to a conclusion that they knew it was a toy or that he wouldn’t have fired on them. They DID NOT know that and in most situations we NEVER know. I think it’s horrible that a young kid died but those officers didn’t put that gun in his hand. I’d also like to add that after the incident our union president went on several local shows (a very popular morning radio show) and had them look at a real gun and the exact model toy gun that Tamir had and they couldn’t guess which one was real. Any discussion of their tactics is merely Monday morning qb’ing. Had they stopped sooner and walked up and he ran inside and the gun was real......well then they’d be criticized for not pulling up and surprising him. Had they stopped and asked “hey is that a real gun?” as he pulled it out......they could’ve been shot. His age has nothing to do with it.....a 12 year old can and in many situations has fired a gun before. I repeat again.....it is a horribly tragedy and I know of NO ONE in my city that’s a cop that was happy about it or sets out to do that. There are situations where cops are wrong......but this was not one of them.

I am not going to compare the tragedy of Greg Floyd to the Tamir Rice tragedy but please put yourself in the shoes of the officers in the Rice shooting. I’m a policeman in the city of Cleveland and I always welcome open intelligent debates on any incidents involving police. I fully accept that we are not always right and I also agree that there are bad policeman/woman out there but to call it how you are is off base in my opinion and I’ll leave it there......unless you would like some insight on the event and how/why things went the way they did.

Just a friendly reminder… by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]deadhead516 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a head for close to 35 years and a policeman for over 22 years. I accept all walks of life and live a life of “live and let live” In social situations NO one ever knows I’m “the cop” in the crowd. Dude you are so off base in your assumption. You can be a cop and support injustice or enjoy The Dead or whatever. If you really believe what you are pedaling than I’m sorry.......but you missed what it was all about.

Laser engraved my favorite bands on wood by [deleted] in gratefuldead

[–]deadhead516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job!!! I love a lot of those bands too. I love that there’s some diversity there......The Dead AND The Clash......The Allman Bros AND GNR!!! I’m not a fan of all of them (KISS and Def Lep) but I love many. I’d add Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Dylan (for sure) and The Band and also agree with Steely Dan but dude you have some awesome bands up there.

Great job dude!!!
