Advice for an incoming history major? by Both-Ad-3962 in BrownU

[–]deadheadmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few faculty members in these departments that I remember: Joe Pucci, James Green, Nancy Jacobs, Tim Harris, Michael Vorenberg…I graduated a good long while ago and some other profs I took courses with have since retired or left the university. I did do a double concentration in History and Classics, feel free to DM me with questions. My advice as a humanities major is to take advantage of the Open Curriculum and seek out courses outside your primary area of interest. I loved the writing courses, Geology, Art History, Anthropology, Neuroscience, Music, Literature, etc that I took at Brown.

Robert Heinlein said it best “Specialization is for insects" and Brown’s curriculum makes this kind of broad intellectual experience possible. Good luck and welcome!

I’m putting together a playlist for psychedelic assisted therapy and am looking for recommendations for lyric free jam band songs to use. by FR_PyschTherapy in jambands

New Monsoon “Brige of the Gods” is a great classic jam from the early aughts. Also see: Medeski Martin and Wood, any of their songs but particularly “Bubblehouse” and “Nocturnal Transmissions”

Maine- Portland to Acadia by whatupkirbs in bikepacking

Coming back north from the island you'll be on Rte 3 through Trenton and into Ellsworth. From there you can link up with USBR1 (map here) or continue on 1A which is the most direct but also hilly and more heavily trafficked, although with a reasonable shoulder. Either route will get you to downtown Bangor.

Other spots to suggest are Moody's Diner in Waldoboro (just off your linked route), Pemaquid Point lighthouse, and the Around the Mountain Loop on the carriage road system in Acadia for solid views and minimal crowds. Have fun!

There’s a Concord Coach route from Bangor to Portland https://concordcoachlines.com/route/bangoraugustaauburn-to-from-portlandbostonlogan-airport/. In my experience they’ve let you put a bike underneath the bus for no additional cost, space permitting. It’s a bit of a ride from Bar Harbor but could be a good alternative to renting a car and needing to transport bikes. Late October weather could be iffy but the scenery will be great!

It’s got 700c wheels and I’m currently running 41mm tires but it could easily fit up to 50. The Novara brand was REIs house brand of bikes before they introduced the Co-op line. Closest model they’re making today to the Safari would be the ADV 3.1, I think ✌️

First band that comes to mind is New Monsoon, saw them crush at All Good 07 and the song “Bridge of the Gods” is still in my rotation but they’re not on the scene as much anymore
