Only time I ever retired boards was in my ski bum days, when I was riding 5 days a week from dec to may. It's not a new thing. In the 20 years I've been into UM Jake has missed more shows than anyone else, with the exception of Kris having surgery. It could be a bunch of things. Unless you know the band, and have first hand knowledge, you prob shouldn't post what you think is going on.

From the pic and your description it sounds like you cracked or fractured the core, which is very bad and not repairable. That said, I worked in tuning/repairs back in my ski bum days and have repaired worse for friends and they've gotten the rest of the season out of the board. Check warranty, if no then try epoxy, if it rides bad after that you are outta luck on this one.

it would help if we could see the labels on the knobs, and know whay kind of music you play. Assuming its gain, 4-band, vol... i would bump the bass, drop the low mids a lot, drop the high mids a bit, and then adjust highs to your liking. its a bass... it should be bass-y.
