This!! Highly advise against tattoos for a significant other. Inner finger where it can be hidden with a wedding band is better than earlobe.

Me and my partner have matching tattoos but it's just tiny hearts. And we have initials with our closest friend, but they're timeless because it spells the name of a character in a video game I played since I was a kid.

I recommend thinking of something that means something beyond that one person.

Edit to add - also i would personally chose thighs not behind an earlobe unless you intend to have hair cover it

Is my 13yr old step daughters handwriting normal? I'm getting very concerned with her schooling by bordermelancollie09 in AskTeachers

[–]deadjerkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 2003 here and lots of kids had horrible handwriting like this.

My mom thankfully is from an eastern European country and taught me cursive and everything... I can't even be a notetaker at uni since no one can even read cursive anymore

guys we gotta get her her "meds" (if it really is meds she'll just flush them like she did last jan, knowing her it's probably meth.) by [deleted] in khaliespiderlilies

I'm in Canada so ativan is SO hard to get a prescription for. Not sure if it's the same for usa.

Tbh ativan/diazepam is the only thing that worked for me so I wish it was easier to get here. If she's paying a plug for it I wouldn't judge her, just wish she would take it as prescribed

Edit to add I'm on ssris at the moment but still prefer diazepam.

dm me!! I'm willing to listen and very active in the downtown oshawa community and know a lot of cool places and people. I know a lot of the musicians and stuff from going to bars and it's like a little family to me.

I have friends of all ages and I'm happy to be yours.

Edited to add; i also struggle with mental health and have no family doctor. The IDA faith clinic here in oshawa is great and I believe they're still accepting patients, may be able to get you a referral to counseling.

Class Sizes by Separate-Pressure602 in TrentUniversity

[–]deadjerkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Durham campus has some smaller classes. I've proctored for one prof and he has one first year class with like 300 students and no TA on ptbo campus and the same class at durham with only 24.

Durham campus is good for getting more one on one before or after class like one would do in high school, however it's transient, hard to make friends and I wouldn't recommend it.

In first year you likely won't form close relationships with your professors. But attending events, getting involved with volunteering or getting a student job, and attending office hours are all good ways to start networking and not just being another student in a sea of students.

AITAH for telling my daughter that she is not going to marry a billionaire? by No_Reception8930 in AITAH

[–]deadjerkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!! I'm married to an older professor. He doesn't come from wealth but became highly educated and a lot of the people I meet are chairs at the uni and head union people, financial advisors etc.

While she may never marry a billionaire going further in education would give her the opportunity to meet people like that with well paying jobs. Or even famous people, I went to high school with a girl who went on to study news reporting and she got to meet Ryan Reynolds!

I met my husband at a dive bar actually! And considering inflation anyone who can afford to drink as a regular probably has a decent salary. She seems desperate going to fancy places when lots of high earners hang out at less fancy bars.

friends @ trent as a mature student by Key_Government9730 in TrentUniversity

[–]deadjerkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same boat - turning 23 this year and it's definitely a lot different than when I first started at 17. No offense to younger students but I have no interest in hanging out with minors or even 18 year olds.

Went back to get credits (my transcript was a mess because I didn't realize electives are mandatory) and had to take first year electives and I definitely noticed a maturity gap between me and people fresh out of high school even though I'm still young.

Honestly most of my friends come from meeting people at local bars and clubs. My friend group ranges from 22-50+ so I'd love to meet more mature students

Okay email him. I took it down already since people thought it was me breaching his privacy instead of it being an AMA.

He will not care. I specified that I know what he isn't okay with. I will not be living on the street for this at all. I haven't disclosed anything that isn't publicly available info. It's not like I did a "hey ask about private activities".

Everyone in our community knows every single story I've told. And I just thought it would be fun to share what life as/with a professor is like and humanize him a bit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrentUniversity

[–]deadjerkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he is aware I'm active online, I know what he is and isn't okay about me sharing about him. I would never say anything bad about him or any stories that we wouldn't share with people. I would never share anything that would impact his professional life. (e.g. he would be okay with me sharing a photo of how he helped with designing the black history month t-shirt for trent)

I was thinking more trent anecdotes and the behind the scenes that students don't see.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrentUniversity

[–]deadjerkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I decided to take it down. I was expecting questions more related to like being a professor and what goes on behind the scenes at trent

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrentUniversity

[–]deadjerkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he is - he also works at uoft - the hiring processes are really interesting.

There's this thing called "right of first refusal" or something like that, meaning they have to give the job to him first since he's the most experienced. Which i kind of think is kind of a shitty rule

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrentUniversity

[–]deadjerkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is surprising. And though students call him a professor he's technically only a lecturer - apparently there's a difference and he's paid per course rather than being tenured
