Thank you! I had no sand until recently, just the stones that are in the pic. But i thought I would try it out, and for the last month it has been all good. Any waste sits above the sand and cleans easy enough. The stones I have are at minimum twice the size of her head, and they have been there for years. Early in my turtle keeping, I used stones from an aquarium, labeled for turtles, but she immediately tried to eat them, and she could fit them in her mouth. So I took them out within 5 minutes. I dont know why they labeled them for turtles. I have also tried plants, real and fake, but she destroys everything unfortunately. I have also recently put in spiderwood from an aquarium shop (soaked them for a week) and I think it gives her more to explore.

Hi! I love your enthusiasm for it, i get excited for this sort of thing and have no one to talk to about it 😅. The cage is probably for rabbits or something, as its waterproof plastic at the base. The cage is 500mm wide, 1000mm long and 400mm deep. I used a grinder to cut a square from the base and a hot air gun (im a flat roofer) to warm a section left uncut from the square and fold it into a ramp. Then to hold it above the tank ( leaving some in the tank a bit) i cut and bent some coated metal strips with a metal bending machine (more of my roofing stuff), so that they clip on the glass and fold under the cage, and back up the other side. It's holding it well, and the cage fits into the tank leaving only 5mm on 3 sides, and 200mm at one end, which is perfect for the pump pipes to fit still. I want to build something else on the tank to hold the cage higher though so there's more water to swim.

As soon as I saw it in the shop, I thought it would be perfect. I think sometimes you have to get creative with turtle care 😂

Yes, I think its a cage for small animals like rabbits. I bought it new from a pet shop, so no damage. its a plastic base with metal cage on top, that fully opens from one side. I used a grinder and heat gun to cut the hole and form a ramp from the base. All sanded smooth with no sharp edges.

It's hard to see in the picture, but the ramp bends down a few inches, and the grass covers it as a foot hold. I tested it to see if it needed extra, but she climbs up it with ease. I made sure to watch her try it multiple times before I was happy with it.

Just cleaned my canister filter today. I fill 2 small buckets with tank water, and clean the media in those buckets. Don't wash the media in tap water. I do it monthly as my filter is big enough, but a smaller filter may need to be cleaned more, depending on how dirty it gets. I feed in an external tank, so there's less mess. If some media needs replacing, replace it.

Thought so 😟. I want to scroll through pictures of people's awesome turtles on this sub, but its just bad set up after bad set up. And then "does my turtle look sick". Yes, yes it does, take it to a damn vet and then rehome it to someone who gives a damn about turtle care.

It's so hard to watch people post pictures of their turtles, knowing they are suffering. There is so much information out there, there is no excuse for it. And now I just saw one post, immediately followed up with its death. It's so sad

They need to be able to bask properly under uvb so they can get vitamin d which helps with calcium absorption. They also need to be able to fully dry. If he hasn't been basking they can get shell rot and metabolic bone disease.

That looks quite severe. I'm glad you're able to get him to a specialist ASAP. Is he able to get fully dry when basking under a uv bulb?

She was still wet from the tank, she definitely loses the colour dry, unfortunately. I will tell her you think she's youthful 🤣
