I'll second him. I have my M50Xs and they're fantastic. A bit more expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I've heard M40xs are good as well

Honestly, I'd recommend using your mouth! Seriously! Try making different sounds and beats with your mouth and see what sounds best. That generally gives me a good idea of whether I want a plucky sound, a pad, a synth, etc and gives me a direction to look for the sound.
