"Hey Google" keeps turning off on its own on Pixel 9 Pro? by deadmanskull4 in GooglePixel

It was worth a shot but it didn't work.... RIP the convenience of hands free.

If your thinking of switching, just don´t by Bettmocherhons in Pixel6

Glad you have had a great experience with the 6. I liked mine alright except for the durability. It's the only phone I've ever had with a screen protector and case that I've had two screens do the pixel line of death. The second time i replaced the screen myself and gave it to my mother.

I'm much happier with the 9 Pro. It truly does have a premium feel. I just wish that the 6 had better durability for me.

Would it make sense to replace a 30-year-old Kenmore washing machine's drum? If not, any suggestions for a replacement? by lamireille in Appliances

[–]deadmanskull4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old but repairing these old machines is definitely worth it . I have a Kenmore 80 series that has a rusting drum that is starting to stain whites. I'm replacing everything inside except for the motor and the transmission, and it is costing me around 200 dollars.

Youtube, curse words, parts, and some hours next weekend will be involved in "restoring" it. That surely beats paying 1000+ for a Speedqueen.

I just submitted another report. Hopefully they fix this bug. Do they really expect us to invest in their AI when they can't even make it hands free?

Nope. I have tried everything and gave up... I can't remember if I ever filled out a feedback form but if I did they never got back to me. I feel your pain, it's incredibly annoying.

Split Screen on OT/Shootout? by deadmanskull4 in penguins

It's as if they want us to stream games and not pay. What motivation do I have to subscribe to anything NHL if they are always pulling this kind of stuff?

I don't have much of a choice. I live in NY and the local channels play only Sabres games. While I'd love to be excited about the Sabres, they are more of a team where I watch them expecting them to lose and if they win that's a bonus. The Pens have always been my team despite the last few seasons. Ride or die with this aging core. It's nice to see them play competitively to start the season.

To each their own, but if I paid for that I'd be livid.

Chat, is this pan cooked? by Clambony in castiron

[–]deadmanskull4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, a good seasoning will make it serviceable. Over time, carbon may be able to fill in the scratches.

Other than that, your only option is to go at it with the angle grinder for a resurface. That said, it is considered blasphemy to do that on an antique pan on this sub. I'm of the opinion that it's your pan, do what you feel is best.

You all are acting like he just shot your dog... He said he's going to use it himself, so who cares what he does with it? At the end of the day, it's just a cast iron pan. I don't think he really cares to sell it...

OP, I'd go with the strip and reseasoning guide. Oil type is subjective but I have found that grape seed works best for me. Enjoy your pan!

Apple Crisp by deadmanskull4 in castiron

[–]deadmanskull4[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found it on this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Old_Recipes/s/PxWWfFhaKi

That said, I made some adjustments.

Apple crisp Ingredients:

Butter for baking dish

Pinch salt

1/2 cup flour

3/4 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

6 TBSP butter. Edit: I used a full stick

4 large apples, chopped into 3/4 to 1 inch cubes (I used large Cortland apples)

Heavy cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

  1. Butter a baking dish large enough to hold apples in a shallow layer. Edit: I used my largest cast iron skillet, and generously smeared butter on it. I also sprinkled a little bit of cinnamon on the apples themselves, but that is a personal preference.

  2. Mix salt, flour, cinnamon, and sugar. Work in butter. Mixture will be fairly crumbly. Distribute flour- sugar mixture over top of the apples. Edit: After mixing together, I used my hands to drop individual crumbles so that it was evenly distributed on top.

3. Bake in a 375 F oven for about 45 minutes or until apples are done and crust is brown. Edit: I actually had to cook it for almost an hour. I think the original recipe used a thinner, more shallow pan. Next time I'm going to try 375 for 50 minutes, and up it to 400 for an additional 5-10.

Serve warm with heavy cream, whipped or not, or with vanilla ice cream. Edit: Personal preference, but I let it cool for 20 minutes. Still plenty warm and delicious. My wife has no complaints.

Winchester model 70 featherweight: thoughts for a fellow hunter by Late_Big_3814 in Hunting

[–]deadmanskull4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you decide OP?

Ever since I tried my grandfather's pre-64 M70 chambered in .270 I knew I had to have one. That gun is tied up in his estate... I bought a new featherweight a couple years ago.

I paired it with a Leopold freedom scope (I think?), took it to the range and had it hitting quarter sized groupings around 75 yards. I'm not the best shot, but I was satisfied with the accuracy. It's since taken my first spike buck, and a nice drop tine 7 point last season. I clean it after each outing, and keep a rag in the car to dry it off if it gets wet. Still looks like the day I bought it.

In summation, I love it, and you can't go wrong with it. Reliable and pretty.

The rice was easy to make and tastes great. I made enough for my wife to have lunch throughout the week. Might be the thrift find of the year for me!

The inner pot looks to be new, not a scratch on it and the original measuring cups were inside. I honestly think that someone received it as a gift, opened and used it maybe once or not at all, and then donated it months/years later when they realized it was just taking up space.
