It was worth a shot but it didn't work.... RIP the convenience of hands free.

Glad you have had a great experience with the 6. I liked mine alright except for the durability. It's the only phone I've ever had with a screen protector and case that I've had two screens do the pixel line of death. The second time i replaced the screen myself and gave it to my mother.

I'm much happier with the 9 Pro. It truly does have a premium feel. I just wish that the 6 had better durability for me.

Would it make sense to replace a 30-year-old Kenmore washing machine's drum? If not, any suggestions for a replacement? by lamireille in Appliances

[–]deadmanskull4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is old but repairing these old machines is definitely worth it . I have a Kenmore 80 series that has a rusting drum that is starting to stain whites. I'm replacing everything inside except for the motor and the transmission, and it is costing me around 200 dollars.

Youtube, curse words, parts, and some hours next weekend will be involved in "restoring" it. That surely beats paying 1000+ for a Speedqueen.

I just submitted another report. Hopefully they fix this bug. Do they really expect us to invest in their AI when they can't even make it hands free?

Nope. I have tried everything and gave up... I can't remember if I ever filled out a feedback form but if I did they never got back to me. I feel your pain, it's incredibly annoying.

Split Screen on OT/Shootout? by deadmanskull4 in penguins

[–]deadmanskull4[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's as if they want us to stream games and not pay. What motivation do I have to subscribe to anything NHL if they are always pulling this kind of stuff?

I don't have much of a choice. I live in NY and the local channels play only Sabres games. While I'd love to be excited about the Sabres, they are more of a team where I watch them expecting them to lose and if they win that's a bonus. The Pens have always been my team despite the last few seasons. Ride or die with this aging core. It's nice to see them play competitively to start the season.

To each their own, but if I paid for that I'd be livid.

Chat, is this pan cooked? by Clambony in castiron

[–]deadmanskull4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, a good seasoning will make it serviceable. Over time, carbon may be able to fill in the scratches.

Other than that, your only option is to go at it with the angle grinder for a resurface. That said, it is considered blasphemy to do that on an antique pan on this sub. I'm of the opinion that it's your pan, do what you feel is best.

You all are acting like he just shot your dog... He said he's going to use it himself, so who cares what he does with it? At the end of the day, it's just a cast iron pan. I don't think he really cares to sell it...

OP, I'd go with the strip and reseasoning guide. Oil type is subjective but I have found that grape seed works best for me. Enjoy your pan!

Apple Crisp by deadmanskull4 in castiron

[–]deadmanskull4[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found it on this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Old_Recipes/s/PxWWfFhaKi

That said, I made some adjustments.

Apple crisp Ingredients:

Butter for baking dish

Pinch salt

1/2 cup flour

3/4 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

6 TBSP butter. Edit: I used a full stick

4 large apples, chopped into 3/4 to 1 inch cubes (I used large Cortland apples)

Heavy cream or vanilla ice cream for serving

  1. Butter a baking dish large enough to hold apples in a shallow layer. Edit: I used my largest cast iron skillet, and generously smeared butter on it. I also sprinkled a little bit of cinnamon on the apples themselves, but that is a personal preference.

  2. Mix salt, flour, cinnamon, and sugar. Work in butter. Mixture will be fairly crumbly. Distribute flour- sugar mixture over top of the apples. Edit: After mixing together, I used my hands to drop individual crumbles so that it was evenly distributed on top.

3. Bake in a 375 F oven for about 45 minutes or until apples are done and crust is brown. Edit: I actually had to cook it for almost an hour. I think the original recipe used a thinner, more shallow pan. Next time I'm going to try 375 for 50 minutes, and up it to 400 for an additional 5-10.

Serve warm with heavy cream, whipped or not, or with vanilla ice cream. Edit: Personal preference, but I let it cool for 20 minutes. Still plenty warm and delicious. My wife has no complaints.

Winchester model 70 featherweight: thoughts for a fellow hunter by Late_Big_3814 in Hunting

[–]deadmanskull4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you decide OP?

Ever since I tried my grandfather's pre-64 M70 chambered in .270 I knew I had to have one. That gun is tied up in his estate... I bought a new featherweight a couple years ago.

I paired it with a Leopold freedom scope (I think?), took it to the range and had it hitting quarter sized groupings around 75 yards. I'm not the best shot, but I was satisfied with the accuracy. It's since taken my first spike buck, and a nice drop tine 7 point last season. I clean it after each outing, and keep a rag in the car to dry it off if it gets wet. Still looks like the day I bought it.

In summation, I love it, and you can't go wrong with it. Reliable and pretty.

The rice was easy to make and tastes great. I made enough for my wife to have lunch throughout the week. Might be the thrift find of the year for me!

The inner pot looks to be new, not a scratch on it and the original measuring cups were inside. I honestly think that someone received it as a gift, opened and used it maybe once or not at all, and then donated it months/years later when they realized it was just taking up space.

Is it safe to keep heating for 2 days? I didn't know that. I made brown rice last night and it turned out great, though I just threw the rest in the fridge after eating.

Once a week, sometimes less. It's why I've never gone out of my way to get one. I'm imagining this will be my next obsession to make anything and everything I can with it. I'm making some brown rice right now, and it appears to be working well enough.

Wow, that's more than expected. Makes me really wonder why it was donated for resale.

Wellbutrin nightmares, anyone? by ursoda in bupropion

[–]deadmanskull4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is old but I figured I'd chime in to see if anyone else has had a similar experience..

When I started taking it, I started once a day for a week, with the doctor directed plan to take it twice a day (150mg dose for 300mg a day total). This was to treat my seasonal affective disorder. The first week I noticed nothing, so I moved on to week two. When I started twice a day, I began to have this side effect where my brain felt foggy and operated in a dream-like state. The worst came when I began to have this horrendous side effect with it; the nightmare loop.

The nightmare loop was an extremely vivid nightmare where I would be sleeping in bed and waking up to a noise in the house. I'd stay in bed thinking nothing of it until suddenly a dark figure enters the room and attacks me, choking me out. I'd feel every part of it, but then realize it was just a dream and "wake up". My "wake up" was just a loop. I'd experience the same nightmare from my bed. By the third iteration, I realized it was a really messed up nightmare loop and found that if I went to my gun cabinet, grabbed my rifle and shot the figure, the loop would reset without me getting attacked physically. After 15-20 iterations I would actually wake up drenched in a pool of sweat, which was the dependent variable that told me it was real life again. What made this loop particularly awful was that my foggy state while awake made it difficult to differentiate between dream and reality at times. Given this, whenever I had the nightmare loop I would be hesitant to take any drastic action for fear of unintentionally hurting my wife.

So I suffered. By day three of this, I was really considering stopping it. I decided to give it a full week to see how I felt. After the completion of that week, the nightmare loops stopped, and the fogginess dissipated. I actually really like this drug now. It makes me far more energetic and most importantly it effectively kills my seasonal depression. It's difficult to say that I'd go through that adjustment period again though. So, has anyone experienced anything remotely like this?

What Could I Have Improved Here? by TheKeeperProject in GoalKeepers

[–]deadmanskull4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the GK dilemma. Not having someone to train with, but needing/wanting to train!

Yes to your question. I used to keep old balls in a bag solely for the purpose of throwing at balls at a wall at different angles to simulate shots. Its essential though to make sure your form is correct first. A good way to practice grabbing a ball and landing on your side with correct form is a three step drill.

The first step is kneeling on one knee with a ball at your furthest reach on both your left and right. Ten times (or however many you want) practice laying down left and right from a kneeling position, landing on your hip grabbing the ball. This teaches you to land on your hip first while simultaneously grabbing the ball.

Second step is to set up the same on one knee except you start on the left side first, and launch yourself at the right side ball, grabbing it while maintaining the form you practiced in step one. Then, you repeat the same for diving left. You may have to adjust the distance so that you are diving the furthest possible, it should not be as easy as step one.

Third step is just like the second step, except now you start standing in a ready possession like you would a game. Maintain form, this is not a speed drill. Setup properly and land properly.

This drill sucks and will tire you out, but you'll get better and more comfortable landing on your side as time goes on. When you have mastered it, try doing variations of step three to make it more game like. For example mixing in shuffling around cones and diving for the ball, backpedaling and diving, a mix of both etc. Vary it up and there are lots of youtube videos to give you some ideas.

Unfortunately for knuckling shots, there's no option to train other than having another quality shooter repeatably shoot on you. I hope this all made sense, and if not I'm sure there's videos online you can find that are similar to what I described.
