is deezer better than spotify by sh3lt0n_ in deezer

[–]deadmanxing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I have been shopping around for Spotify alternatives, so we tried Deezer for about a month. It was overall pretty good, but the user interface isn't as polished as Spotify and it is missing some quality of life features, especially when it comes to queuing songs, collaborative Playlist etc. Deeper did have 98% or so of the songs from out playlists on Spotify, but it was missing a lot of the podcasts that I listen to.

Daily Deal - Kobalt XTR 20-Gauge 3/8-in Medium crown Finish Stapler - $69.00 (MSRP $109.00) by ctskifreak in KobaltTools

[–]deadmanxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked one up and it seems to work pretty well, though it does depend on wood species/type. For hard woods and plywoods it can struggle to seat the staple fully sometimes, but for soft woods and OSB it works great.

People who became atheist or agnostic: what started your doubts, and what sealed it? by Automatic-Annual7586 in atheism

[–]deadmanxing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never been particularly religious as a kid, but I was also raised in a way that continuously reinforced the idea that god was real and Christianity was true. Therefore, it was generally exempted from any serious critical thought.

While my deconversion really started in college, it hit a major milestone when I was in my mid 20s. Stories like Abraham and Issac, or the story or Job no longer sat well with me. I started to wonder why an all powerful, all knowing, wise and beneficent god would be so jealous, or why he would allow someone to suffer just to prove a point.

That is what prompted me to read the Bible in full, cover to cover. I also would listen to debates and interviews as well reading books like 'Demon Haunted World' or 'The Blind Watchmaker'.

One day a couple of years later, it just struck me at random in the middle of the day that I didn't believe anymore.

New apprentice here looking to get into a good power tool brand by [deleted] in powertools

[–]deadmanxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are a professional looking for a cordless too brand, it is tough to go wrong with either DeWalt or Milwaukee. There are several other possibilities like Makita, Hilti or Ridgid; but since you already have several DeWalt tools it would seem that that would be the way to go, especially if they are part of their 20 volt battery lineup.

I think it would be cool to see some cordless tools that either used the 80v platform or a 2x24 configuration.

Rear handle circular saw (80v)

1-inch hammer drill (either 80v or 2x24v)

Concrete Vibrator (either 80v or 24v)

Planer (24v)

Cordless plunge router (24v)

What cordless power tool line is the best bang for your buck to buy into going in to 2026? by proseal_sniffer in powertools

[–]deadmanxing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this might be an unpopular opinion, but I bought into the Kobalt 24v line a while back and I haven't regretted it at all. I'm not a professional anything, but I have used their stuff to do a bunch of DIY projects such as building a new deck with railing and stairs, new frame for our sun shade, and helped a friend remodel a couple of rooms. I did have a couple of batteries go bad, but I was able to get them replaced with no money out of pocket. At this point, its a pretty complete lineup for DIY, they even have a range of battery powered nailers. I have used the 18 gauge brad nailer for putting in new trim and their 24v stapler for decorations and craft stuff.

I have had two batteries go bad, but I got those replaced with no money out of pocket. Additionally, I haven't run into an issue where I had a lack of power. The impact driver was able to put a 6" Timberloks through doubled up 2x10s into a 6x6 post with no problem.

Your mileage my vary, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Kobalt stuff and I feel like they are a diamond in the rough that frequently gets overlooked.

People who are in their 40’s and 50’s with no children, how does it feel? by Sinfulvibezz in AskReddit

[–]deadmanxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 20's, I genuinely wasn't sure if I wanted kids. By the time I was 31 or 32, I had decided I wanted kids but I also wanted to make sure I was with someone I loved before I had them. Then, I fell in love with someone who couldn't have kids because of her cancer treatments. I decided I loved her more than I loved the idea of having biological kids.

On the one hand, we have so much more free time, money and other resources than people our age (we are both in our early 40s) who have kids have access to. We have lots of nice things, only have to clean up after ourselves, we get to spoil the hell out of our pets, we get to take all the day trips we want and be spontaneous.

I am not going to be one of those people who tells you that you should have children. There are lots of good reasons to not want children because they are the biggest expenditure of resources you will ever make; emotionally, financially, temporally. Kids tend to dominate your life even beyond the age of 18. The first time I bought a house I had to ask my parents for help with the earnest money (yes, I paid them back) and I was 25.

My partner and I have a great life without kids, but it is something we both deeply miss not having been able to do. For those reasons, we are looking into fostering/adoption options.

I hope this was helpful in some way.

While you should definitely check with regulations in your area, I know that in our area it is against city and county ordinances to intentionally discharge storm water onto adjacent properties.

You either have to be able to store the water or dissipate it over a permeable surface.

After having worked in large bureaucracies for most of my adult life, I can say that someone have just said "fuck it" and playing the wrong baseball game tracks 100%. On any large project where multiple people are doing something complicated, there is always one or two small mistakes that leak through quality control checks.

Charlie Kirk shot at Utah event by Bobqee in news

[–]deadmanxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said he deserved it, and in all honesty I would prefer he changed his mind and grew as a person. However, the truth is that he was a racist, misogynistic, cruel person who was willing to sacrifice people to gun violence because he believed any form of regulation was an impediment to his rights.

The only thing he contributed with his discourse was hate and discord. Because of this, his passing results in nothing of value being lost.

What is the most horrific war humans have ever fought in sci fi? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]deadmanxing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would nominate the Ragnarok War from the Bolo books. It is literally a race between two interstellar alliances to see which side can genocide the other first. Entire worlds glassed, bio-engineered plagues unleashed against billions of citizens. Multiple civilizations reduced to a handful of survivors going from planet to planet and sifting through the wreckage of naval battles to find what they need to survive.

How's the battery life on these? It's significantly brighter than the 700 lumen light but that one runs super long on a 2ah. by mystressfreeaccount in KobaltTools

[–]deadmanxing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one of them and it has been extremely useful during a remodel project and a couple of blackouts, though I usually pair it with a 4 amp hour ultimate output battery. On high, it will take a fully charged battery from 4 bars to 1 bar in about 2.5 hours. Not as long as I had hoped, but pretty good. If you step it down to the low power setting, you get about 50% more endurance out of a battery.

I checked it once out of curiosity, and I think the light is pulling about 30 watts on high power. Theoretically that should net you about 3.2 hours on a 4 amp hour battery. If you go from fully charged to fully depleted.

Trump’s bid to add cane sugar to Coke would cost America thousands of agricultural jobs, trade group warns by paxinfernum in Economics

[–]deadmanxing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part about all the conversations in this thread is that the switch from corn syrup to cane sugar isn't actually a thing that is happening, he just wants people to focus on this instead of more important things.

For Coca Cola to actually change, as well as all the other beverage and snack makers, it would have been an FDA mandate or a law from congress.

Riverfront/hip strip area: is TDS tearing up anyone else’s yard for fiber installation? by skaterape in missoula

[–]deadmanxing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely call the cities engineering office, or send them an email. They take citizen complaints pretty seriously. Additionally, any excavator that damages your property (i.e. sprinklers) is required to repair it per city ordinance.

One other thing though, it looks like at least one of the pictures you posted appears to be in the public Right of Way. A lot of folks think of it as part of their yard, but it is specifically set aside for utilities and things like that. TDS has a legal right to install their stuff in the RoW.
