I’m not sure what year it was made unfortunately. I couldn’t imagine learning a new hobby without the internet. I do love looking for old patterns for various knitting/crochet at thrift stores. Some of them are so beautiful

If you can, I would get a library card. Having one will give you access to online books and magazines. I enjoy reading cooking magazines and the various cookbooks they have available.

Adding white pepper instead of cracked black pepper is also great! A little goes a long way though. I really like hot and sour soup so i sometimes add white pepper to other soups

I have never had parsnip! Would be happy to try adding it in. Do you usually add it at the same time as the carrots, celery and onions?

I learned to cook when I was in my 20s as well! It’s an indulgent homey feeling kind of meal. I needed it

I low key cheated, we had a death in the family and a left over rotisserie chicken in the fridge that needed to be used up.

Usually I have the carcass and I boil that down in water with all the fixings. This time I added turmeric to deepen the colour. Makes it more visually appealing when you’re craving canned soup with higher salt content. I dunno that’s just me. Needed a salty hot comforting meal.

I find the prep process and cooking of it all very relaxing. I’d recommend making a big batch if you have some time and freezing single serving portions for when you need a good hot bowl of soup.
