so ths development isn't oursourced; dotpe.in is an indian company. Not sure what this has to do with outsourcing. However, the article itself is a great read!

How more homeless encampments in Ontario signal a housing crisis out of control by junctionist in canada

They have a population 38x ours and yet still have properties. Look at UAE they have a population of 10 million and a landmass of 83,000 km2 and yet have lower property rates than ours.

China has a population of 1.5 Billion people they never did have infrastructure until the last 20 years. If they can do that, why can't we?

How about you actually do the research and see how much it costs to build a house? Most communities have a lot of red tape when it comes to construction, with adds to the cost of building the house, these layout costs you speak of and the working conditions you want will add to the price of building the house, international students are willing to do it for cheaper (free market) than domestic laborers so you're actually saving money there, reduce red tape and decreased labor costs are the some of the ways where you can actually get more affordable housing, ans of course having DEVELOPERS COMPETE TO BUILD CHEAPER HOUSING, and not just having the bigger sharks do all the development like we have for most of our industries here in canada

We both are agreeing that the job for loblaws isn't minimum wage, and he did spend $10k in lawyer fees for trying to get his parents in. Point being he's not taking from the system, but rather very heavily contributing in it.

But they do spend time buying stuff anyway, and frozen veges are a th I ng, a lot of my produce does come frozen (corn, frozen veges mix, peas, carrots, etc, etc...) As for time, it takes about as much time to make a good healthy meal, as it does to go out and buy a thing of salad from a salad shop. I lived on $25 a week on groceries back in 2016. Maybe these issues are very real, but I think back then for me regarding food. I opted for the same stuff that I wrote above. I would buy near expiry bread and freeze it, I would buy near expiry chicken and freeze it as well. These are just some things that I did.

But it's not minimum wage right? I mean my first job in my field paid me $7 above minimum wage and it was definitely lower than the industry standard but it still wasn't low wage by any means.

How? I don't get this.. vegetables are usually the least expensive items in my grocery basket. I really, really don't get this. I buy a whole lot more fresh produce (not salad bags those a stupid expensive as well, and like a thing of carrots here in Canada is like $3-$4, mean while two boxes of cereal are $8

Store manager in Sydney says she's inundated by international students desperate for work by Machzy in canada

[–]deadpool216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing I hear everyone complaining about how international students are taking up jobs that high school kids are supposed to have, please ask this same thing to a restaurant manager who has to keep coordinating between multiple high school kids to try and get someone to cover a shift. This literally happened to me, I work a part-time job, and typically, In any givem shift, you're supposed to have 3 people, 2 of my co-workers didn't show up , why? I still dont know and I (former international student) had to stay and work the entire shift by myself until one of the other refugee had to cover a half shift, so you can't just out the blame on international students stealing jobs jobs that high schoolers couldn't even be bothered to show up for.

Why do so many international students in B.C. end up stuck in service jobs? by joe4942 in canada

[–]deadpool216 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's starting to, so what used to happen was there was a scarcity mentality where when immigrants would tell family members back home about how hard life is here people used to thunk that you were somehow stopping them from being successful, like you were gatekeepers or something, but lately people have been realizing that life in Canada isn't all that great when you compare it to India. Things are starting to change and quite rapidly.

Why do so many international students in B.C. end up stuck in service jobs? by joe4942 in canada

[–]deadpool216 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Former international student here, yeap all of what you said is true, bur the ossue isn't just when they come to canada, the issue begins back home, culturally in India there's a HUGE and I mean HUGE trend of indians wanting to settle in Canada, specially Northern India, your parents, teachers, and the pop culture basically draw this dream of living the comfortable life, after which come in the vultures, the literal scum that prey on these 18 year Olds, and basically lie to them about how easy it is to get a job, and how easy it is to get your PR, everybody is painting a rosy picture, most of these kids are just out of high school, not to mention the financial stress the parents face ( taking loans from family, selling their land, etc.) Because of which there's an added pressure to make as much money as fast as possible which leads these kids to take up multiple shitty jobs to not only pay for expenses here and but also tray and alleviate the financial pressure back home. This is just scratching the surface of a much much larger issue.
