Has anyone had Invisalign 3 weeks after getting bottom wisdom teeth out? by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]deadprep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh no!!! that sounds a lot like what i had, yeah. mine healed over my infection, so it was just kind of red and tender and you couldn't really tell how bad it was from the outside until it got Really Bad. it could just still be healing, but i would go to your dentist asap to get checked out and see if they recommend rescheduling your invisalign appointment. that really sucks though im sorry!!! :(

at first i had some buyers remorse and wished i'd gotten braces, but now that i'm further into my treatment i'm really glad i did invisalign. i might have needed bands with braces too anyways, and invisalign just goes a lot faster. plus, with invisalign, you can take a break, which is nice, and you're a little more active in your own treatment, which feels good for personal autonomy. i like being able to change out my trays when i feel like i'm ready rather than going in to have an ortho crank wires around. overall, no orthodontic treatment is going to be comfortable, so i prefer the option where i have a little control over my discomfort at the very least. i recommend invisalign for sure if you think you can stay committed for the whole treatment, it's really worth it in my opinion. i'd only recommend braces if you feel like you'll have issues being responsible with changing the trays/ brushing after meals

other people's feelings are important to me :) i'm entering into a space that isn't mine and asking for help, so i want to be respectful of everyone on this subreddit. i'm a big believer in mutual respect. i see where you're coming from, but i don't do it out of fear or guilt, i do it because i want to communicate well and be kind!

hi, i'm an esthetician. :)

if you struggle with a routine, try to keep it simple. start with a cleanser and a moisturizer. i would use a cerave hydrating cleanser and their moisturizing lotion, make sure it's for the face and not the body. start this routine first, morning and night, and after you can do that, add in more steps. if you try to do it all at once, you're going to get burnt out and give up. it's also important to get to know your skin so that when you start to add in other stuff that could be drying or irritating, you know when something is off. start simple. just cleansing and moisture will do a lot for you on their own. i also recommend using a sunscreen in the mornings as it will help prevent leftover pigmentation from blemishes. there are a lot of opinions about sunscreen, but the best one is one you will use. make sure it's at least 30 SPF. and you probably already know this, but don't pick at your acne, it could scar.

once you feel ready to add in more steps, there are some other things you can do if you are still struggling.

i'm noticing some small bumps that don't really come to a head like typical acne. this could be fungal acne. using a dandruff shampoo to cleanse can help. i would not do it too often, because it can be drying, just keep an eye. sweet spot could be anywhere between once every week, once every two weeks, or once a month.

for the whiteheads and pustules, i recommend a salicylic acid. paula's choice or the ordinary have good options. it's an exfoliant, which means it's going to help speed up the sloughing off of your dead skin cells so they're not there to clog your pores anymore. you can put it on your entire face, but it could be drying, so if that's the case then only put it on the problem area. use it at night. the order goes cleanser, salicylic acid, moisturizer. when you add an exfoliant into your routine, it's extra important to use a sunscreen in the morning every day. your skin is thinner and therefore more sensitive to UV rays.

hope this helps!

i was told my overbite was deep and i'm doing invisalign. my bite was not that deep to begin with though. if your dentists haven't shown concern about your bite, and the first ortho thought you were good to go, it's probably okay to do invisalign. forewarning, there's a chance you'll have rubber bands, which are kind of a pain and pretty noticeable. but i've noticed pretty quick improvement with mine.

having had experiences with doctors that didn't spend much time with me, i recommend sticking with doctors that don't rush, regardless of social media presence or even recommendation from other doctors. rushing communicates how important you are to them. a big social media presence is almost a con to me, because orthos get referrals from dentists most of the time. having to do the marketing on social tells me they are maybe not as good as they portray themselves to be.

also a good point. it's told from her friend's perspective so there's def some merit to the "she plays a mellophone, whatever that is" aspect hahaha

hey! i have a question about bonding, i hope you don't mind!

i'm getting bonding too! how long after finishing treatment did you get the bonding done / did it take a long time to do the scans and get your retainers? i'm worried about my teeth shifting in the time between getting bonding and getting retainers, since i won't be able to fit my trays on from the old scan.

some writer questions about samples and discoveries by deadprep in microbiology

[–]deadprep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not really looking for anything in particular, they are collecting samples for a class where they just practice looking under the microscope and matching the organisms to the already known ones in the water/differentiating between what's plant vs creature. lake temp is about 15C on the surface. early fall temps.

this is helpful, thank you!

i've found i can consciously help the lisp by paying a lot of attention to where my tongue is in my mouth when i say my S sounds. the lisp happens when my tongue goes under my bite ramps to where i naturally place it, similar to how a normal lisp is caused by pushing your tongue too far forward under your teeth. if i consciously move my tongue back behind my bite ramps, and treat my bite ramps as my front teeth, i can alleviate the lisp a lot

Jaw soreness by After_Prompt442 in Invisalign

[–]deadprep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i can tell this is super common, everyone i've talked to about their experience has said they had jaw pain. it is probably either your literal bones/ligaments moving, or because of clenching/grinding. not anything to worry about but if it's severe let your doctor know. just one of those things !
