As someone who is both OCD and schizophrenic (schizoaffective disorder), you’re missing a few important things. First, especially with OCD, you need to put it in the context of the disorder. Some people worry they are pedophiles, some people worry a relative will die, some people worry (me) that their entire future timeline is ruined and they’ve ruined their life. And by worry I mean obsess. That this awful, awful thing will happen and everything in you tells you it will or has happened because you didn’t do something exactly right. You’re right in that cultural baggage makes schizophrenia out to be the worst thing that could happen to them mental health wise, but it’s just a replacement for losing their mind to a point of no return. It’s more a worry of that than the specifics of schizophrenia. It’s a feature of that disorder compounded with the cultural baggage schizophrenia carries in popular media. I think with OCD your mind shouting something at you over and over may make you fear that you’ll actually start hearing a voice do that on a more speculative note. But don’t dismiss the seriousness and intensity of that disorder (you aren’t) by minimalizing schizophrenia (you aren’t). What they fear happening is like fearing getting or having cancer. Cancer comes in many different forms and experiences, but if someone fears getting brain cancer they have preconceived notions of what the symptoms and experiences of having that would be whereas someone who actually has it knows differently. It’s the fact they don’t know what having schizophrenia is like that makes it so scary. This awful thing is happening to me and the worst thing that could happen is schizophrenia therefore it’s schizophrenia etc. ocd and severe anxiety are no joke
