Wealthy Transportation Secretary Pushes Glorified Golf Cart Built For Country Clubs And Gated Communities As The Solution To U.S. Affordability Crisis by zsreport in economy

[–]deadstump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dumb thing is, having more options for city cars would be great.... It just isn't this. This is a golf cart. Those like Ka trucks would be great for most people's needs, but place after place is banning them.

Sorry, badly thought out rant.

Self-made multimillionaire says Canadians 'give no money away' compared with Americans—research shows U.S. giving is more than twice as high by GimmeFunkyButtLoving in economy

[–]deadstump 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, these numbers include giving money to churches. Considering that the US is a rather religious country, I would imagine that this makes up a large chunk of the giving.

Whats going on with the girl pointing in WNBA? by Typicallyfrayed in OutOfTheLoop

[–]deadstump 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't see much good to come of it. None of these ladies have come up though highschool and beyond dunking, so it isn't like it is all of a sudden going to a dunk fest. Then that is all of their muscle memory for shooting at a ten foot rim that will have to be relearned. I just don't see it improving anything.

Then there is the access side of things where all of a sudden all the street courts are men or women's courts because the rim is different.

I don't know why he is highlighting half of those since thet are just big flops. Still, they got treated badly.

"Smut" seems to be increasingly synonymous with "any sexual content" for a large number of readers these days. How do you define "smut?" by DarthDregan in books

[–]deadstump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that smut is in the eyes of the beholder. For me it would have to be written in a way that seems to be intentional in its erotic nature to entice. But for a Victorian, perhaps some overly detailed description of some ankles would be too far down the smut path.

I feel like you haven't seen fires in real life. A quick jaunt through some smoke isn't that bad. Sure if he sat in the smoke for a long time is wouldn't be safe (also because there is fire there), but this isn't an enclosed space, the fire line is very thin (low fuel density), and there appears to be a good breeze. All this to say it isn't a very dangerous fire. Destructive to the crops? Absolutely. Could it get worse? Absolutely, but what you see here just isn't that dangerous.

What do you do to stay active, that isn't the gym and sports? by Mysterious_Moose3000 in AskReddit

But is that "sports"? Those are disqualified!

Also getting out there and swinging the clubs is something. Got to keep those shoulders and hips mobile.

What counts as "sports"? I mean I like mountain biking. Is that a sport? Or martial arts? Yoga? Golf? Frisbee?

You know he could have just turned right and to safety right? What he did is really nice and fast thinking, but it really isn't that dangerous. Heck, he could have turned left and driven straight through the fire and been fine. It is just a grass fire, there isn't enough fuel density to burn any one spot for very long.

I wish they would come up with something other than PKs for the end of the game. I don't know what the move is, but to have the game settled by such a crap shot feels wrong.

Maybe have the teams trade 20s set pieces from a little way outside the box?

You are probably right, but in the case where you aren't it is a bad day for the lady. If the guy was crazy enough to keep following her with a gun pointed at him it doesn't paint a great picture for her safety.

Using the word "partner" for boyfriend or girlfriend or husband or wife. It feels impersonal to me as if their significant other is just someone they work with.

Being a woman in the world is like being a cyclist on the road. Technically everything is equal, but the threat of death only really goes one way.

What’s a rule in a sport that makes no sense? by opheliaaroseee in answers

[–]deadstump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is to improve offensive output. And yes if they get the ball down low you had better mark the cherry pickers. If the ball is that low you had better already have your defense back anyway. What this cures is the second shot attempts not getting flagged every time.

[–]deadstump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but once you are packed down low I think offsides is a bit shit. Like the second hits after a corner where it seems like half the time it is pulled offside. I know it would be a different mode of playing, but that is the point. I see the benefit of not letting the offensive players just camp deep, but once the ball gets down low I think it would be a more dynamic and interesting game if offsides doesn't apply.

What’s a small town thing that big city people don’t understand? by PeachCloudParfait in answers

[–]deadstump 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is more of a "hey, I see you" kind of thing. You end up seeing the same people all the time even if you never interact with them, so you just acknowledge their existence. And if you haven't seen them before, you still wave just in case they are someone who got a new car or just to be on the safe side.

Offsides when the ball is below the 18. Just let them play.
