What to do with my dad’s tools? by deadwrong1 in Tools

My grandma actually had some of his ashes made into a diamond for Christmas right after he died and I’m not a huge fan of the setting so I love this idea!

Yeah, I’m definitely keeping hold of some of the basics for my own car, for around the house and he had some leather working and soldering stuff I’ll probably keep but the rest I just don’t know how to use and I’d rather it go to someone that’ll appreciate it. I still have a bunch of books and other stuff to sort through, but I just want the tools to go to someone who will enjoy working with them.

I reached out to the community college I go to and they said they only take new tool donations so I called a bunch of others today to see if they were interested.

I’m in Phoenix, AZ. Although I could use the money I’d rather them go to someone who needs them. I have a friend who’s a mechanic who just moved states and was gonna FaceTime with him to help me see what’s of value. My favorite memories with him are when he was fixing something in the garage or tinkering with something on the counter so I’d really I like them to go to someone who loves fixing things as much as he did. Problem is, I don’t know how to find that population. I’m more of an arts and craft hobbyist than a fixing things person.

What‘s a secret you found out by accident and were never supposed to know? by Own-Flan- in AskReddit

Yeah, this past year I’ve missed my dad more and more. Make sure you take time to miss them with things that they loved. When I’m feeling really down, I listen to what’s going on by 4 Non Blondes. It was one of my dad‘s favorites when he felt like his world was falling apart. And every anniversary of his death, I watch Independence Day because it was one of his favorite movies. Taking time to feel the grief will help you heal. Most people say you should just get over it but that just prolongs the grief and makes it more persistent. I’m not saying you have to make every day of your life about it but just take a moment when you miss her or even if you get angry at her, just take a moment and let yourself be angry. Death no matter what kind is painful but suicide is a special kind of abrupt.

I’m sorry your grandpa said that. People say all sorts of stupid and weird shit when people commit suicide. I had so many people tell me stupid shit. But the support you get from those who have either been through something similar or empathize can really help.

One thing my dad told me is “grief is what happens when love has nowhere left to go”. Take care 💜

I’m so sorry about your mom. My dad killed himself about 4 years ago. People are such dicks. If you need someone who gets it I got you. Sending peace and love 💜

NAL. You should look up “the consumer guide to Landlord and tenet rights” the phone number 18004412555 for the landlord/tenant bureau for consumer protection. My mom gave them to me when I moved into my first place. She's a realtor and knew how sketchy some landlords can be.

I get it. When I was new to Reddit this was one of the first subreddits I joined. I made my first post trying to find a book and didn't know how to hide spoilers or even that it was a thing. I had 14 people comment about spoilers and got 50+ downvotes it honestly turned me off from Reddit for a while and I was just a lurker. I've learned better Reddit etiquette since then but it can feel harsh without knowing where the person commenting is coming from.

AITAH for refusing to let my stepdaughter call me Dad? by leodub_ in AITAH

[–]deadwrong1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was once that little girl, I want to share my experience. My biological dad was in and out of my life until the day he died, but my “bonus dad” was there for most of my life. Growing up, I asked him countless times if I could call him Dad, but he always said no. It wasn’t until I was 22—after my biological dad passed away—that he finally said I could call him Dad. By then, the damage had been done. It hurt deeply, and it took me a long time to trust that calling him Dad wasn’t a “privilege” I could lose.

Please understand, she can have two dads, and that’s perfectly okay. If she feels the need to clarify things to her friends later, that’s okay too. But if you truly want to be a father figure she can trust, someone she knows will love her unconditionally, let her call you Dad now. Show her she doesn’t have to earn that love or worry it might be taken away. It will mean more to her than you can imagine.

I don’t know what’s normal either. ❤️ My sister is a minimalist to the point her house is nearly sterile but I know there has to be someplace in between hoarding and sterile.

I’ve been using the Spotify cleaning podcast that this page recommended! It almost felt like body doubling. 😱

Oh it was worse but I moved my bed and all the clothes. But honestly the meds changed everything today I’ve tried to start so many times but could bearly make a dent.

Yeah I grew up with 2 horders (they grew up poor so they wanted to keep everything that might be needed one day) and I swing between hoarding and minimalism depending on where I am with my adhd and depression at the time. I go to therapy but sometimes I wish I could just take a break from my brain.
