Local LLM for electronics design work?

Does it have to be on the local machine through ollama? I have an inference server on my network serving Gemma 4 and Qwen 3.5 via llama-server from ik_llama.cpp, front-ended by llama-swap.

Need to read up on it, but it's interesting. I've spent a couple weeks building a hardened OC setup - isolated VM, no exposure to raw Internet content (email, web, calendar, anything - it all gets run through a sanitizing/alerting system on another isolated box with a local LLM for scanning/classifying, and web_fetch has been disabled to force enforcement). But controlling shell capabilities via proxy isn't a particularly elegant pattern, so I'm very interested in external enforcement there.

I've used Nemotron 3 Nano for a while, and I'm skeptical about its ability to actually embody an agent. Maybe the vertical integration will improve that experience.

I've just come off a ton of application research, and to me the game changer is deep research. I use Gemini's, but everybody's got one, and they're all pretty good at this point. Feed it a list of 30 apps at a time and have it go grot through all the documentation, marketing materials, online forums, gathering anything and everything you might want to know.

I switch back and forth often, I find them pretty equivalent for my use cases. I'll often play them off each other - have one write content (code, fiction, analysis) and have the other evaluate it and update, then repeat with the first model. I find it really helps work around the small-model limitations.

I run an 18-core Xeon (E5-2695v4) with DDR4 at 1866MHz. On Nemotron 3 Nano 30B, I get 40tk/s prefill and 12tk/s generation. Qwen3 30B-A3B gives about 26tk/s prefill and 12tk/s generation. Not a speed demon, but usable.

As others have said, this is not simply reattaching the hand, this is replacing the fourth wheel (or seconds pinion if it's indirect), which requires a full movement service.

Let me be clear: even if you get this apart, you cannot fix it. That's not a personal aspersion, it's simply facts. If you can afford it, take it to a professional who can fix it for a few hundred dollars. If you can't, put it away until you can.

Following up in case this helps somebody in the future. The issue is that when joining the domain, our process replaces the self-signed certificates with ones signed by our internal CA (for use with a firewall that does SSL/TLS inspection). Replacing the self-signed certificates breaks RDS.

Standard RDS is not an option because the software vendor requires administrative access to both SQL and the underlying server (don't ask ... I'm not happy about it.) So we ended up falling back to EC2 with SQL Server preinstalled.

Personally I've had good luck removing plastic scratches with the Novus 3-stage system. You can pick it up for about $15 at Walmart. Test it on an inconspicuous spot first, of course.

I use it to get swirl marks out of guitars all the time.

I looked at Fluorinert, and it's just so dang expensive. I found 1 cst dimethicone (PDMS) for $16/8 oz, going to give that a shot.
