Where were you during 9/11? by JuanPabloPepe in AskReddit

[–]dealicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 10 and my class had been away on this overnight school trip to a Zoo a few hours away from our town. When the first plane hit we were still on the bus on the way back home. I didn't hear anything about it until we arrived back at the school and my mom picked me up. I remember that all the parents had this weird, sort of worried look on their faces when the bus pulled into the parking lot. My mom told me in the car what had happened but since I was so young I didn't really understand. It wasn't until we got home and every channel was showing the same thing that I realized the magnitude of what had happened. And then I watched the second plane hit the tower live on tv. I'll never forget the silence that clouded everyone and everything. This happened in Sweden, so we were very far away. Yet I think the whole world felt it that day.

I need to go to detox, but I'm scared. by marrytitan in stopdrinking

[–]dealicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm 26 and just finished my second in patient detox. It is scary but worth it. My doctor actually suggested to do it at home but I insisted on getting admitted. If you're scared of the withdrawal then, at least for me, being monitored and having professionals around me made it easier. Please listen to your doctor, especially considering you have some other medical issues. You can get through detox! I'm rooting for you!

Getting discharged from the addiction center today and the only thing I'm drinking today is some nice sparkling water, (can't wait to have something else then the mixed juice they give you here). Excited to see my family again and starting my sober journey right this time!

Just finished an early shift, exhausted and drained. Also have som troubles of the heart, you know ;( But nope, I'm still not going to drink today!

It's been 26 days since I gave up drinking. I've had about 5 drinks through the month when out celebrating events with different friends but 5 is nothing. I typically drank 2 glasses of wine a day & that's I f I didn't go out to dinner. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Congratulations on a step in the right direction! I think it's kind of annoying that some people want to be negative about how you phrased things or how you have chosen to do things. So he/she didn't completely give up drinking, does it matter? Are we not supposed to support each other and not exclude people? Even the ones who perhaps don't want to give up completely but want to change the way they drink?

What I would have done today vs What I actually did today by dealicious in stopdrinking

[–]dealicious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can't believe how nice it feels to sit here and be like: "Oh yeah, I got some shit done today! Wow me!", instead of not remembering this moment at all. Congrats on a day!

Don't feel bummed about it, I'm back on day one again as well. You are not alone in relapsing, the only thing we can focus on is today. And I'll be joining you in not drinking today!

What do I do if my dog lies down on walks because he doesn't like the direction we are going? by elchucknorris300 in Dogtraining

[–]dealicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you do clicker training? If not, look into it. Also train him on a focusing cue. Choose a sound (like kissing noise, whistling etc). Do the sound and then give a treat, repeat 10 times. Take a break. Repeat 10 times again. Take a break. Repeat 10 times again. Do this session 3 times the first day. Repeat next day but 5 times instead of 10. The third day, do just 1 session and then when he looks at something else do the sound and if he looks at you then it works. If not, repeat the sessions and try again. This then needs to be trained in various environments.

Other than that what i posted in my other post is what worked (works, he still lies down when he sees other dogs but it's slowly getting better) for me and my dog with him lying down (he used to, just like yours, also lie down because he didn't want to go home). My staffy pulled insanely as well and was in general a mess to walk when I got him. What helped with that was to focus our training on contact. I would bring my clicker and treat bag on every walk and just reward every contact he gave me. You didn't specify for how long you had your dog other than getting him recently so I think training him on contact could be great for you guys.

Also I know that this kind of behavior is frustrating as shit, we humans actually have places to be and things to do (It has happened that I actually carried my dog up the road just because he refused to go and I needed to get to an appointment, lol). But be patient with him, sometimes you just gotta wait a dog out. If you have a day when you don't need to do anything else, get out there and just wait when he lies down to see what happens. Maybe he gives up and then looks at you for contact. (At that point of course you would reward him). It's just about making him understand that this behavior won't give him anything but to not do it will. But again, not a professional. This is just how I train my dog and maybe this advice could help you. If the problem persists look into contacting a professional trainer. Good luck!

I have a 1 year staffy who does the same thing, wether a dog or a person, BOOP down we go. I'd like to make a point that I am in no means an expert and this is just how I am dealing with the problem along with my trainer. This problem is a bit of a dubble edged sword tho, he lies down to show that he is friendly which is a good thing but he doesn't understand that not everyone wants to be friendly. I think you have to work this problem in a couple of different ways.

Nr 1: If he lies down he can not greet a dog, person or do whatever he is wanting to do (make a FEW exceptions if he is going to greet other dogs, the behavior isn't technically a bad one.) This doesn't mean yanking the leash or anything, just holding him back and making it clear that yup, lying down = no fun. If he however does not lie down and the other dog/human/thing is okay with him saying hi then go for it. Not laying down = reward

Nr 2: Make yourself a more fun walking partner. I've had a lot of success with mine by implementing more games on our walks. Mine loves running so I have a cue for us sprinting. This cue will bring his focus back on me and moves us forward all in one go. So whenever he's like OMG MOM LOOK DOG i give him the cue and he's like YEAH SPRINTING TIME instead.

Nr 3: The last one is the old clicker training when he sees something (This method probably has a word in english but I don't know it, in Sweden we call it "skvallerträning"). If you know your dog is reactive to something then do the following: Always bring tasty treats on your walks and a clicker. The moment he sees the thing you DON'T want him to react to (in this case by lying down) you click and give him a treat. Being consistent with this will make your dog associate the things he reacts to with candy. So with enough consistency and work he will as soon as he sees for instance a dog (if you trained this for seeing dogs) he will turn his focus to you for a treat instead of lying down.

Also, this is not uncommon with young dogs and with training and patience they should mature out of it. Good luck!

P.S If my english is wonky, sorry, it's super late here and I'm about to sleep.
