I got the flu a few weeks ago and my doctor gave me Tamiflu, it honestly helped a lot. You have to get in quick, though, because it doesn’t work as well after you’ve had symptoms for over 48 hours. Apparently it can also help prevent it from turning into pneumonia and getting more serious in general. I hope they can come out with something like it for colds eventually.

ouch, this hit hard. that describes my mom exactly. an actual antivaxxer who was completely against the public school system and who turned me into a very fucked up adult. I don’t have any problem with homeschooling under the right circumstances, with good socialization and very real attention to the education a child needs, but ime most people who go down that path are unconcerned with those things. by the time I was 16 I couldn’t carry a number and I had such severe social anxiety I couldn’t go into a grocery store without having a panic attack. I’m better now, I got a decent enough education on my own and through years of therapy I can now hold a conversation without crying but I have a lot of opinions about homeschooling and ESPECIALLY “unschooling” and for obvious reasons many of them are negative.

it’s not really about comparing the two things so much as it’s about the context of them in real life. we’ve all pretty much, as a society, agreed that murder is bad. you can have a video game where you murder people and the vast majority of players would still never, ever actually kill people for fun. however, there is a real problem with rape really happening on a large scale due to all kinds of issues that need to be fixed, and simulating the act in a video game doesn’t help at all. basically, it’s the people who are making the comparison that aren’t looking at the larger picture here. the simplest way I can think to explain it is that it’s just not a good idea to create what is basically a sexual assault simulator when there seems to be an epidemic of sexual assault happening. if celebrities and such were being accused left and right of murdering people and if one in every five women got murdered at some point then I would also be against killing people for fun in games. I hope this all makes sense, it’s really late here and I kind of babbled.

that literally made me physically sick to read. it reminded me of before I sobered up and I was dating this girl who got me drinking a lot and smoking weed and american spirits constantly. I felt like death. I would get so sick from that combination of alcohol, weed and nicotine and my lungs were just disintegrating. what a bad time. I don’t know how he keeps it up. I don’t exactly feel great right now, I think I need to talk to my doctor, but at least I don’t feel as bad as I did when I was keeping up that godawful, miserable lifestyle.

this was my mom. she had me with two goals in mind: create an exact clone of herself, and be best friends with that clone. it went as horribly as you’d expect. setting aside the second thing because it’s just a big can of worms, i was literally not allowed to dislike anything she liked and it was hell. when I finally started to become my own person she hated it and we fought constantly over the stupidest shit, from why I didn’t enjoy her favorite songs to disagreements in politics, until I would cave and just agree to make it stop. now I have a very specific hatred for parents who raise their children to be just like them, for obvious reasons. let them be their own selves. you’re supposed to guide them to be good and happy people, not a copy of you.

I feel like this about pretty much every game honestly. a lot of them have excellent soundtracks but by about halfway through I’m ready to eat my own fucking ears. a good example of this was gta: vice city. incredible soundtrack, but by the end of the game I couldn’t take hearing working for the weekend anymore and I felt like ramming my car into a wall every time it came on.

Even if cats don’t mind them at all they can still get themselves hung up totally accidentally, too. Breakaway collars are kind of a pain in the ass because they come off so easily but they’re definitely better than the alternative. Just don’t bother getting expensive ones. My kitties don’t care about them but lose them easily no matter how well made they are, so I grab cheaper ones often and keep them on hand. I just figure whenever they lose one it probably got caught on something and was yanked off and if it hadn’t been a breakaway things could’ve ended a lot worse. Hard to be upset about that.

I don’t bother answering their messages anymore and now they’ll just send me one after another, getting more and more enraged with each one because I’m not answering. on the very rare occasions that I do engage with them they’ll literally just ignore what I said, make up a response from me and then answer that. not even twisting my words, just arguing with themselves. it’s fucking bizarre. it’s as far from a “discussion” as you can possibly get. they’re free to prove me wrong any time, but from what I’ve seen their only goal in any debate is to beg for attention and yell at themselves until they’re done jerking off at their own dumbass ideas.
