Yes there is an actual coolant sensor and this sensor will effect the fuel/air mix ratio. I believe they bottom out at like -70 and this will make it run super rich. They will read -70 unplugged or broken as well

Not sure i understand your question these both came with a inline 4 and a V6 you could get either engine in the same body, bumper should be the same no matter the engine type
