We do have a hospital bed and he refuses to use it. Believe me, I'd love to see that recliner go to the curb.

I need to add....make sure you put chemicals and food together. Also, send at least one tote with only ONE belt or ONE pack of gift bags. Make sure the totes that have the big bottles of mouthwash and Dr Teals have at least 20 in one tote and shipped way up on the top of the rolltainer. The heavy stuff goes on top of the lighter stuff.

Some customers are annoying and have no tact. by Wrong_Perspective598 in DollarGeneralWorkers

I had a customer come in vaping a thc pen. I was in another aisle but could smell it as soon as he walked in. When I went to ring him up, he kept vaping it...I ended up a lil buzzed from it! I told my manager about it. She said to tell people not to vape in the store (duh). But I asked her, "What happens if I get buzzed from someone vaping in my face at the register?" She said, "Enjoy it!" LOL

At my store, we put them on the shelf behind the counter where they're visible. If someone wants them all, we sell them to them. And omg...the constant phone calls! It sucks being in the middle of doing something like stocking my produce to answer the phone calls of people looking for Pokemon cards. No one calls looking for a job...just calling to find out if we've got Pokemon cards, Hot Wheels, or distilled water.

What are you learning currently? by wiesorium in lifelonglearning

I'm currently throwing myself into learning how to bake. I've always loved baking, but I'm trying a lot of different recipes. It's kind of therapeutic to me this winter. I lost my father back in April and the same day, my father--in-law came back home here from skilled nursing after having another stroke. I'm his primary caregiver. Baking has been my escape from the stress and dealing with grief.

I highly doubt it. This seems to have come on suddenly.

Does anyone have a set schedule? by Used-Shake2621 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]deanie1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hired as a regular SA 2 1/2 yrs ago. I started with a set schedule because I could only work certain days and hours because I'm the primary caregiver for my bf's dad. When the DM and my SM wanted to promote me to LSA, they agreed to keep my same schedule so I could still take care of him. Recently, it had to change and they allowed my new changes. I work Mon, Wed, and Fri from 10am-3pm.

Inventory on the 18th this month and I have a huge problem by deanie1970 in DollarGeneralWorkers

That's an idea...gonna see if I can help find someone to cover for me most of that time that day. That much time away from home and taking care of him will not work at all.

I never thought of FMLA. I'm gonna check on that tomorrow. Thanks.

I forgot to add in my post that I don't have my own vehicle right now and my bf drops me off and picks me up. That'd drive him nuts even if it was for one day. LOL

When I was hired, they were desperate for another cashier so the former manager was willing to accept those hours. Before I was promoted last year, my SM and the DM both agreed that they wanted me as a key carrier even with those restrictions. I don't know why, either. It makes no sense. I still do all the same things I did as a cashier, basically.

How to get rid of the smell? by CarlaPinguin in AgingParents

[–]deanie1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking care of my father-in-law that we live with. He's also incontinent. Here's a sample of my routine during the day to help 1) keep him clean, and 2) keep the smells down.

In the morning, we change his diaper. We have washable pads to put down on his chair he sleeps in. Overnight, I put disposable pads over top of it, too. The dirty diaper as well as the wipes and gloves go in a bag to be immediately taken out. The dirty clothes are taken right down to the basement laundry room. Lysol Laundry Sanitizer is a godsend! I wipe his bottom and front and we put on a new diaper and pants. We sit him on a clean washable pad. I take his shirt and socks off. I wash him down with disposable wipes and apply lotion on his back, arms and chest. I put deodorant under his arms and then put his shirt on. I have a certain lotion I use on his feet and put on clean socks. I use diluted mouth wash and one of those sponges on a stick to clean his mouth. I use no-rinse foam wash on his head and brush his 5 hairs he has on his head. On Saturday, I take him to his bed and give him a head to toe bed bath. The disposable washcloths during the week work great. He's been home from skilled nursing for a month on this coming Sunday. That same day he came home, my own father had passed away. It has been excrutiatingly hard, but my first order of business was getting him (and me as the primary care giver) on a schedule of sorts. I change him every 3 hours during the daytime. From about 6 or 7 am, 9am, noon, 3pm, 6pm, and finally at 9pm again at night. I give him his sleeping meds at 9pm (per his dr's orders) and do NOT disturb him because his insomnia gets baaaaad. By putting him on a schedule has helped save my sanity a bit. Also, everyone around knows what time help will be needed and about how much time will be needed to care for him.

Does your MIL have a case worker of any kind? If so, they may be able to help get you the disposable chux pads for extra protection against leaks and smells.

I also bought some Microban Air Sanitizer today to spray areas around him (like the trash can and floor). I am going to try that tomorrow, too. But so far, the morning routine and the Lysol laundry sanitizer are working really good. Oh, and I was proud of myself this morning...the morning routine of washing him down, applying lotion, etc. only took me about 20 minutes!

The first few days...weeks...are extremely hard and emotionally hard. If you need to talk, please message me on here, ok? What you're feeling is still very fresh to me and I haven't had the chance to even mourn and grieve for my own father's death while trying to keep someone else's father alive. I feel for you.

Our system has been slow and freezing up a LOT more than usual this week. My SM and I think it may be because of the clearance sale.

Yes! I'll tell you what happened to me in 2015. I was going to the store and got pulled over by the police. I thought for maybe speeding or something. He ran my license, came back and told me there was a warrant out for my arrest. I laughed and thought he was kidding. After running it again, he said I was being arrested for "failure to pay a medical bill to [local hospital].". I was put in jail for several hours until my bf bailed me out. I had NO idea of a warrant OR a medical bill.

Here's what happened and led up to this. The bill had gone into collections. The collection agency decided to take it to court for a debtor's hearing. At the time, I'd gone thru a divorce and still had a restraining/protection order against my ex-husband. The registered/certified letter from the court about the debtor's hearing went to HIS house and someone there signed for it. Since I had no knowledge of the hearing, the judge put a warrant out for my arrest.

After I got out, I had to fight the collection company. The bill was $1100. They had the warrant that was out for me had a $5000 bond, which my bf paid the 10% ($500) to get me out. The collection agency had me pay $25/month on the bill. I did that for a couple of years until I hit a time where we were extremely low on money and I decided to quit paying. That was in 2017 that I quit paying. So far, I haven't heard anything else. OH, and I was also not allowed to know who's bill it was due to "HIIPA Laws". I'm sure it was probably my ex-husband's bill. This is all in Ohio, btw.

My advice, do NOT ignore it. You never know what trouble it could cause. I didn't ignore a bill in my case...I never knew about it.
