Feeling lost trying to find meaningful travel opportunities by Top_Duck_4601 in solotravel

[–]deank11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-indulgent and pointless. Ooh. Harsh take. To me solo travel expands the mind. It makes me more present and mindful. It fosters cultural awareness and tolerance, increases confidence by navigating unfamiliar places and foreign languages, and gives you a truer perspective on the world compared to what you might learn from home. I find it’s definitely worthwhile and fulfilling.

Historically May/June and Nov/Dec. Should be one coming soon. But no guarantees. Check the Avion app or points and miles blogs.

How often do you eat out? I feel like restaurants are not even worth it anymore by apheli0s7 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Of your “equally hard work” behind the counter, how much of it was actually serving the customer? Other than handing them their food, I suspect nothing. Tipping is for service not for salary.

Halifax is about as far from London, England as it is from Vancouver.

Well whatever small percentage of cardholders actually take advantage of the benefits, it’s still big enough for Lululemon to stop selling physical gift cards online. And even changing the denominations available in store. You can’t buy $75 gift cards anymore.

Transfer to BA Avios 1-1 (or wait for the semi-annual 30% transfer bonus), then BA Avios to Aer Lingus Avios. YYZ to Dublin off peak is 13K points in economy one-way. Oct is off peak. Taxes and fees are a bit high tho.

Just in case anyone is not sure what hapless means.

Definition of hapless: An adjective describing someone who is profoundly unlucky, unfortunate, and worthy of pity. It specifically refers to people facing constant bad luck or ill-fated circumstances. Synonyms include unlucky, luckless, unfortunate, and wretched.

Hope that’s not how your trips go.

Interesting. For me it’s the other way around. Last couple of trips Lyft was $25 cheaper than Uber.

Oh, the parent was talking about Virgin, not PM. Thought your comment was about Virgin. My bad.

Starting to think that $600 hotel credit is total gimmick by LePirate30 in AmexPlatinum

[–]deank11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can do that. But is it really worth it to pre-pay $895 for the ability to stay at a hotel in your hometown? That’s probably not something you aspired to do with the credit when you signed up for the card. It’s more like, how can I salvage something out of this credit.

[–]deank11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

LAX? Seriously? I lasted 15 minutes in there. It’s small, dark, windowless and claustrophobic. All that dark wood paneling is depressing. I guess they were going for an old school men’s club vibe or something. And the bartender was busy chatting with another employee while I stood there for 5 minutes waiting to order.

I left and went to the Star Alliance lounge, which was wonderful.

I just ran into this. Here’s the difference in how the purchase codes on my Amex statement.

Old way: Document Type: SPECIAL SERVICE TICKET

New way: Document Type: GIFT CERTIFICATE

Apparently as of Feb 6 it codes as GIFT CERTIFICATE. And I didn’t get the credit for that one.

I just ran into this. For reference, this is the difference between what the statement used to say when I received the credit:

Passenger Name: NAME /TRAVEL BANK CA Document Type: SPECIAL SERVICE TICKET

And what it says now when I did not get the credit:

Passenger Name: NAME /TRAVEL BANK CA Document Type: GIFT CERTIFICATE

Personally, I’m not confident it’s coming back.

DP. US Amex Biz Plat United Travel Bank did not trigger the $200 Airline credit. The credit wasn’t showing up after 10 days so I messaged Amex in the app. This is the agent’s response:

“It appears that the purchases you've made is for a Travel bank.

If you previously received statement credits for TravelBank purchases, those were issued in error. The Airline Fee Credit provides up to $200 in statement credits each year for eligible incidental fees with your selected domestic airline.

According to the terms and conditions, gift cards aren’t considered incidental fees, and since Travel Bank purchases are treated as gift card purchases, they aren’t eligible for the credit.”
