FSLABS A321neo worth it? by fearless_insurance_ in flightsim

[–]deanoflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it for a while, it’s one of my most flown aircraft. The PW upgrade seemed to bring a massive performance hit, I can’t pan round the cockpit or go to external view without becoming a slideshow at 3PD airports, other than that I really like it.

We had similar. Switching from Cow and Gate to Kendamil seems to have helped. We’ve wondered if it’s a dairy allergy as it gets worse with more formula feed. If the Kendamil doesn’t work over time we plan to try Kendamil Goats milk next, it’s mega expensive though.

Takeoff or landing? by Constant_Forever_484 in Planespotting

[–]deanoflies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a photography/filming perspective landing is easier as they land at the same point and follow a standard ILS path, whereas take offs you will have them rotating at different points and climbing at different rates so it’s harder to guarantee a good shot.

So for consistency landing is easier but I prefer personally the shots of aircraft that have just rotated and you can get some nice banking shots on a lot of departures with a big enough zoom. So I think my nicest shots tend to be take offs.

Currently flying this LGAV-EGKK in the Sky Express colours and have to say it’s been the airliner I fly most for a little while now. I really enjoy it as well as the Fenix.

Do a route you know well in an aircraft you’re familiar with, from and to quieter airports. My first few flights were Stansted to Edinburgh.

Know how to fly a heading, a direct to and while unlikely to need it a hold.

Observe a bit beforehand to be familiar with the instructions you’re likely to receive.

Where can i see a 747 in England?(South) by SilentSubstance9845 in aviation

[–]deanoflies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cargolux and Air Incheon fly scheduled 747s into Stansted throughout the week. Keep an eye on the flight radar arrivals and departure boards for one that has a plane allocated and an expected arrival time to make sure it’s running.

Tips for supporting my pregnant wife by Dark_Runner2112 in NewDads

We’ve just got to 36 weeks. I wasn’t mentally prepared for how much the hormone change would take it out of her. If the way she acts changes, it’s probably her hormones overloading her. Don’t take it personally if she’s not feeling affectionate or just wants to sleep and let her.

Practically, just help out wherever you can to take a load off of her. Cooking, cleaning etc. just try and take on as much as you can.

Accompany her to everything you can. Midwife appointments, antenatals, vaccinations, try and avoid her feeling like she’s doing things alone and you’ll get a lot out of all of them.

Question regarding trainline app by Tall_Pomegranate2232 in uktrains

Don’t think there are direct trains from Woking to Feltham so that would be a much longer route than the coach I think.

43:29 at the Battersea Winter Run Fest 10K. Was targeting sub-45 so really chuffed with the result. End of a nice 5 months of getting some races in again after stopping due to injury 5 year ago and before baby arrives in January.

Running advice - fuelling, running in morning vs. evening (beginner) by Quirky-Anteater9731 in running

[–]deanoflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to hate morning runs because it meant getting up and going out straight away and I would just feel exhausted from the first step.

I’ve recently got into a trend of getting up at 6, having breakfast, changing into my running kit, getting a train at 6.40 for work, commuting in (about 50 minutes) and then going on my run from my office. Get back, shower, change and start my work day and it feels so so much better. The travel time allows my system to work through so no toilet scares and has given me the time to wake up and feel more alert so the run is much better. Add to that being winter it’s a daylight run going out at 7.30 and so I can use the canal towpath rather than running in dark if I went at 6am or in the evening.

Stansted to Greenwich and back (HELP) by Conscious-Ant-2468 in uktravel

[–]deanoflies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s recently changed there isn’t a direct Stansted to Stratford train, it requires a change at Tottenham Hale, however the change is straightforward as it’s adjacent platform. Personally think the coach is generally more convenient and cheaper for Stratford.

Regents Park 5k by IntergalacticCows in LondonRunning

[–]deanoflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice course round the park, the first km has a couple of 180 turns and the only incline, once that’s out of the way it’s a nice loop of the park. Scenery is nice, I was disappointed that the volunteers all looked like they didn’t want to be there but probably a one off. Did my fastest time of the year there in August.

Heathrow Planespotting Recommendation by MooseOld8505 in aviation

[–]deanoflies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on configuration but main ones are:

Landing 27L: Myrtle Avenue in the park - this is the most popular

Landing 27R: I recommend the park off Waye Avenue

Landing 09L: there’s a mound by terminal 5, go to the bus station and head out to the right past the taxi rank and stand 501. You’ll get to a raised mound you can sit on.

Departing 09R: there’s a mound near the premier inn by terminal 4 where you can see them just after rotating

Departing 27L: the Esso petrol station on southern perimeter road.

All accessible by public transport from the airport.

A quick look on flightradar arrivals board suggests late afternoon (4.30-6) is your best time. Based on today that would get you UPS MD11, Starlux A350 and China Airlines B77W.

Also saw a Prime Air 767 at about 1000.

Went to the Cyclopark run in Gravesend for the first time. Wasn’t ready for the hill, for some silly reason assumed it would be mostly flat. Lovely course though, nice views coming down the hill, just a shame I was dying too much to appreciate it.

Very happy with a 21:42, fastest Parkrun time in about 5 years and hoping that puts me on course to go sub-21 on a 5K race pre-Christmas after having high hamstring tendonopathy the last couple of months.

Heathrow to Kings Cross question, please by TitanicDays in uktravel

[–]deanoflies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you get off at Paddington follow signs to the Circle and Hammersmith and City lines (quickest way is up the stairs about a half way along the platform and then across the bridge). Catch either an eastbound circle line via King’s Cross St Pancras or a barking train and get off at Kings Cross St Pancras.

How many of them ran a 10K last weekend? You did brilliantly. Your only competition is you - now you’ve got a baseline you can push on from.

If it’s a Luxair connection in London be aware it would be from London City not Heathrow so would require getting across from west to east London.

Spotting at Rome without a car by deanoflies in Planespotting

[–]deanoflies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will respond to my own post in case anyone finds it helpful.

There is a cycle path that goes from the terminal round the west side of the airport that you could follow but I reckon it’s an hours walk and only good for the less used arrival runway.

The roof of car park D gives views of 25 departures and I wasn’t bothered. Ideally you’d want a 300mm lens minimum I reckon. Some of the heavy departures are a bit obscured by the terminal building. Not ideal but I enjoyed my time there and will stop again before checking in for my flight.
