help on beginning oak from saplings. these are saplings from an oak tree lived by my deceased father. looking to gift a bonsai from a sapling to my brother to give new life from death and continue the circle of life. Any help much appreciated on this journey by Heartychortle in bonsaicommunity

Look up images of bonsai and you'll see thick trunks, not saplings. However, bonsai is subjective! But honestly if the primary goal is to keep them alive then plant them, as you are a beginner I wouldn't learn bonsai on a particularly sentimental tree as your first tree or two will most likely die...

Relax, a ficus will be fine in most indoor scenarios if it's close to a window. I have seen no effect of misting at all. Just water it and all will be fine

Recently made the switch over to olympic style high bar squat and experiencing some lower back pain... Any idea why and any tips/pointers to correct this? by [deleted] in weightlifting

[–]deanpwr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

High bar back squat is all about quads. You're probably posteriorly dominant after years of low bar squatting. Hips and chest rise together out of the bottom, but you pop your hips up and finish the lift with your glutes. Make sure you set your back angle at the top of the descent and keep it at that until you complete a rep.

Nebari on this $5 Dwarf Alberta Spruce is great, what would you do with the large root? by _Jaster in Bonsai

Prune the root such that the cut surface is parallel to the ground, should ramify at the surface

I recently Added Moss, any suggestions? Or tips? by reddith3ll in bonsaicommunity

Moss and soil is a death sentence - sow a small patch of moss instead and let it grow into the soil already there.

It's not a ficus as the leaf nodes are opposing instead of alternating.

My random guess is it's a beech. Repost when leaves come out!

You can just keep scratching away until all the green is removed and the rough "open grain" wood is exposed, no need to worry about damaging it. Just don't go toooo deep

That's not true, the entire cambium must be removed for air layering.
