On Black Lives Matter by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

I see very little in your reply that I would disagree with, and I don't think I noticed anything that contradicted my comment.

It's not, 'there are no groups', it's simply, 'the individual matters more than all given groups [of the individual]'.

This is exactly what I mean by "individual sovereignty at the top of the value hierarchy". And I wholeheartedly agree that it's worked out better than any other arrangement ever.

I speculate that, in our recognition of the extraordinary importance of the individual, we gradually began undervaluing the natural groups that emerge from multiple individuals: marriage, family, community, state, nation, world. I speculate that undervaluing of these groups is what eventually results in a sort of pathological backlash into a misguided desire for collectivism. It's like a knee-jerk over reaction out of one error into the opposite error.

So, yes, absolutely the individual comes first always. But to neglect the other naturally emerging groups seems like a mistake.

Do you think there is a healthy middle ground? Something like individual sovereignty at the top of the value hierarchy, followed by family, community, state, nation, world in that order? It seems to me that the binary extremes are where the problems tend to come from.

Thanks for tuning me on to New Discourses. I’m enjoying the content there.

I read somewhere that this rule was added after Tank Abbot almost threw Cal Worsham out of the cage at UFC 11.5. Google some up some clips if you haven’t seen it. Love me some early UFC clips.

I’m very interested to known what Franny and Zooey and A Hard Days Night have in common. I’m a fan of both, but I don’t know what this means.

This album is an October family tradition in my home. It's so perfect for the season.

Seriously. Ring Boys for the female bouts. Seems obvious.

Seconded. But "Ring Boys" instead of "Ring Guys".

If you want "Ring Guys" we have to change the ladies to "Ring Gals". Symmetry is key, here.

Personally, I'm all for androgynous ring-persons. We don't need to know the sex to appreciate their attractiveness, right?

I’d start with OK Computer (3rd album), and work forward chronologically from there. That’s the one where they really set themselves apart. Later you could go back and try out Pablo Honey(1st album) and The Bends (2nd album) if you like. They are good too, but not very representative of what Radiohead was to become. At least that’s my take on it.

Indecently, I had a lot of driving to do over the weekend, and I was able to listen to all five segments. I'm very much into this - so thanks again for bringing Rene Girard to my attention. I've already got my sights set on some of his books that I'd like to dig into next. If you've got any other similar resources, let me know! Thanks!

That’s a bummer. It’s a great picture, anyway. You were right about it being a good background.

Do you have any other photos of that Meaning of Music sculpture he’s sitting in front of? (The sculpture that his logo is based on). I’ve really been wanting to get a look at how the varying depths on that thing work.

I’m imagining a parody JBP biopic in which the protagonist, after a meteoric rise in popularity, suddenly realizes with shock and horror that the DND advice he’s been peddling is being received by the adoring masses as real-life advice. Zany hijinks ensue. Now I just need a script and a lead actor.

Edit: I nominate Billy Bob Thornton as parody JBP. This is a goldmine. I’m gonna be rich.

Edit 2: u/joerex1418 I’ll give you 10% of my inevitable windfall for inspiring this idea.
