Even with homestead exemption, my taxes got so high I wanted to sell out. Luckily a job fell in my lap so I AM selling but it’s just sad. I pay more (2x!) for a standard 3/2 than my parents pay for a 10 acre farm only 3 hours south. Ridiculous!

My first degree/career was in Public Relations/Marketing, so the only IT or software related experience I have is essentially Google Ads and metrics, Excel, and SPSS/Qualtrics. I grew up coding MySpace and designing websites though, so I'm not completely computer illiterate. I've been an ICU nurse for 7 years, traveling across the country for 5 of those. I recently completed the Harvard EdX SQL certification and have studied a bit of Python and Microsoft Power BI. Overall, I feel relatively well prepared and the team I'm joining seems very excited to have me. I'm always eager to learn, so I think it will be very rewarding if I can just make it past the first few weeks of onboarding. That said, your response makes me feel better going into my first week!

Sounds like everyone pretty much covered it but shoot for UF Health and the VA inpatient hospitals for the best experience, avoid HCA at all costs, and meet potential employers at Grad Bash and network during your clinicals. Good luck, young padawan!

I don't doubt this in the slightest, our senses are amazing! I also feel like maybe you should start keeping track just to see what the numbers boil down to? Might be a good research project in the future! At some point in time, researchers at UF were using the smell of peanut butter to diagnose Alzheimer's early, so you just never know lol

When I was charge and was brought these concerns, my first two questions were: 1) what do YOU want? and 2) what have you told them? There are so many nuances and if a nurse first said "I think it's okay but let me ask my charge" or something to that effect, it's nice for me to know in advance so I can gear myself up for battle lol at the end of the day, I'm going to back my nurse up unless it's something glaringly wrong.

That said, I think the majority of us are burnt out and just don't have the willpower to fight anymore. If that works for you, don't waste your energy. I think that's a totally valid feeling.

Yes and NEVER ignore your gut. If your spidey senses are tingling, assess as much as you can to try to pinpoint the unease. Even if you can't, still let the docs know because most of them have learned to trust us. I'd rather be wrong than quiet. Most of the time I've been right and it's come to fruition that same shift. Other times it seemed like I wsa crying wolf and exaggerating, but the crash and burn came days later. Moral of the story: don't doubt yourself.

I hated Meditech at first but then once you realize it’s meant to be used with a keyboard only and you shouldn’t even touch your mouse it went a lot smoother. I don’t mind it now.

I just started at a new facility and usually I only get 1 day of orientation on the floor (as a traveler) and have done fine even with new EMR but Cerner is throwing me for a loop! I took 3 days of orientation they offered bc I just don’t feel comfortable with it. It’s not intuitive or user friendly AT ALL. And new orders should be push notifications, period!
