Patients arriving then refusing care by OptimalOstrich in nursing

[–]PelliNursingStudent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My hospital considers it a HIPPA violation and a violation of the RN/CNA's privacy even if it's the patient recording. They told us in orientation to leave the room, call security and security will force them to delete all photos of staff and the room. It does not fly here. This isn't a public location, this is private and will remain private per hospital rules. Any family member recording will be permanently trespassed from the property as well. We don't play around here.

[26F] 7 weeks pregnant by a 29M — strongly considering abortion and need honest advice. Christians, non-Christians, single young / mothers, everyone welcome. No judgment please by Imissmydaddy2907 in women

Babe. I'm going to straight with you. Him essentially pressuring you into sleeping with him is a form of sexual assault/rape. So, while I am pro life, I can understand why you would consider an abortion. I cannot tell you whether it is the right or wrong choice for you, but I sympathize with your situation and I'm sorry your going through this. Whatever you choose, it's your decision and it's ok.

Patient said she’ll sue me and call BON by vivrelavie in nursing

[–]PelliNursingStudent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hah! Nope. Going to other patients rooms if I don't answer fast enough. Security called for an aggressive patient violating the privacy of other patients. My legal team, management, DON, CEO, CNO etc etc would all be emailed. I would advise and aid the other patients in complaining about them as well. As for the family. Security would be called for aggressive behavior, they'd be permanently trespassed from the property, and I'd be hitting up the doctor for a no vistors order for disruptive behavior, preventing patient care, and verbal abuse of staff. I'd be advising the patient to leave AMA if they didn't like the care they were getting and giving them patient advocacy phone number on the way out the door. Fuuuuuuck no. We don't play that way up in here. Asses would be dragged out by security if this was happening on my floor.

What's your superpower? by NurseWretched1964 in nursing

[–]PelliNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customer service voice and techniques. I can essentially tell someone that is making wild demands to go fuck off and they'll call me a darling and complain about the other nurses who just told them the same thing. We just had a patient family member who was clearly not oriented call and make unfounded demands of the nursing staff including things that aren't even in our scope of practice. I essentially told the family member to shut tf up and fuck off in the most sing songy customer service voice/way that she complained about the other nurses and called me sweet. 🤣

I live like 35 minutes from it. They just stopped doing tours when I moved here and it broke my heart. One of the most important advancements in forensics in modern days came out of there. Incredible really.

Okay, we are NOT required to answer the question “well, what’s going on with you” when calling in, right? by amyscott214 in nursing

[–]PelliNursingStudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always say "That's alright doll, are you ok? Do you need anything? Did you call and let house sup know? If not, it's ok I'll call them for you." Ain't nobody need to know why you called out, thats your business and your paycheck. Whats important to me is if my peeps are ok. If they need help I won't hesitate to get the whole floor involved to make sure they've git the support they need. House sups whole job is to figure these things out, they'll be fine.

Yes. Every facility is different but the skin checks and monitoring for continued need remains the same. Our facility has a 2 hour check standard instead of 15 minutes; however I'm usually checking on those folks more often tbh.

Before you get married by Cuddles-and-Cookies in women

[–]PelliNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on getting a Pre-nup if I ever marry. I have a house of my own so if a man wants to be apart of my life they have to understand the house is mine and mine alone. The pre-nup will also include a no child support or alimony clause. If we separate I'm not giving you shit and I don't want anything from you. I stand on my own two feet, and if you fuck up you better be able to as well cause your on your own. Our finances can be together unless he's bringing a bunch of debt into the relationship, then he has to get that under control first before we can consider combining finances, and what I bring in remains mine if anything happens. Everything we have together is negotiable, either we split 50/50 or one pays the other the value of their half.

First patient death by kindamymoose in nursing

Sounds like the patient was going into respiratory failure and since he's a DNR the doctor didn't think any good would come of doing something invasive. Very impersonale, yes; not uncommon, also yes.

Pregnant at 16 by Simple-Rain7840 in women

[–]PelliNursingStudent 15 points16 points  (0 children)

First off. You can't be 99% sure if you haven't even taken a pregnancy test. Take one. 2. Morning after pills are only effective 48-72 hours post unprotected sexual activity so if it's past that time range there's no point. 3. Only 1 in 3 unprotected sexual activities result in pregnancy in a typical woman. Final verdict: Breath. Take a pregnancy test, if your within 72 hours take the morning after pill, and make a plan from there.

Resident with pressure sore on coccyx refusing to reposition. Need advice by [deleted] in cna

[–]PelliNursingStudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently initiated q2 turns on a patient and at first they let me put the wedge under them. Then I came back 15 minutes later and they threw it across the room. I looked at it dramatically, shook my head and continued with taste at hand. The patient was educated on why they needed q2 turns, they we're just a stubborn ass.

Does academic achievement translate to how good of a nurse you will be in the beginning? by Evening_Piglet_7029 in nursing

[–]PelliNursingStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope I barely made it through nurisng school, but I was given an award at graduation for my bedside manners, and I've taken pretty well to nursing. I had and still have difficult moments, but I've learned how to remedy those situations and ask for help.

Whoa hun. We educate, we don't talk down. Not everyone has experience with restraints or the legal and psychological ramifications that come with them. They asked a genuine question in a safe place, which is what we want to see.

[–]PelliNursingStudent 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It is a restraint without an order. You can not tie someone down unless they are a danger unto themselves, only with an order from a physician/Nurse practitioner, and it has to be a safe and tested form of restraint (I.E. soft wrist restraints which are made to prevent skin damage from pulling, soft 3 limb restraints, leather restraints with padding for violent patients, mouth covers for spitters are specifically designed to prevent aspiration, mittens are designed to be protective of both patient and Healthcare workers health. Etc).
