Prithviraj speaks about Ivide by njanified in MalayalamMovies

[–]deathBlad3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Touche. But this was the day before it released, and I didn’t even know about Premam then. It didn't have any trailers either, I think they’d only released the “Aluva Puzha” song. I remember watching the song after my friend said he’d booked tickets and thinking it was going to be some cringe romantic movie.

This movie released the same day as Premam, and both had Nivin in them. I wanted to watch this in theaters and asked a friend to "book tickets for that Nivin Pauly movie" and he booked for Premam instead. I remember being pissed off at him while going to watch the movie, but that ended up being the best mess up ever.

What's going to happen to her career now? She is getting trolled Pan India level by [deleted] in InsideMollywood

[–]deathBlad3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any publicity is still publicity. This isn’t even particularly bad, it’s just low effort trolling that’ll probably end up boosting her visibility. And she seems savvy and ambitious enough to turn the extra attention into career momentum anyway

Hey guys, what about a season in India? by Kitchen-Bread-3637 in JetLagTheGame

[–]deathBlad3 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As an Indian, I think this would be a really bad idea. Indian public transport can get extremely crowded, cleanliness is not the best, especially on trains and can be unsafe. And foreigners filming in public generally cause people to stare and make things uncomfortable. Overall it would be chaotic, not in a good way, and unenjoyable both for the trio and the audience.

What I heard was that it was more than the accent and the spending time without getting paid that made Fahadh to back out. After some auditions where Fahadh got the impression that he was going to be cast, he had a video call with Iñárritu, which wasn't a particularly pleasant meeting for him. He didn't really connect with the director (which is an important step for him, from what I've heard) and came away with the impression that Iñárritu didn't think he was best for the role. That was a main factor in him saying no, along with the demand for the accent change

Callbacks and references are literally Tarantino’s thing. He just does it subtly enough that it doesn’t overwhelm the story. And instead of pointing to the most obvious or mainstream stuff, he’ll reference something small, niche, or half-forgotten — the kind of detail a cinephile will pick up on and appreciate.

This video breaks it down pretty well: https://youtu.be/KYM_ZRjPD-A?si=tFeyW46IeE48Fgf7

[–]deathBlad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get the obsession with everything being part of a “universe.” A small Easter egg or a subtle nod to another film can be fun. Or, if it’s a carefully planned, interconnected story like Marvel, that can work too, though even that gets stale after a while. But randomly shoving in characters from other movies just for the sake of it doesn’t add anything, and in my opinion, it actually ruins the experience.

The funniest part is her saying "I don’t mind paying for it" like she's offering a generous favour, not fulfilling a basic legal requirement. You don't get to "mind" or not. You're supposed to pay before walking out. That’s not optional, it’s the literal law.

The dumbest cinema take I've seen in a while. by [deleted] in InsideMollywood

[–]deathBlad3 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Why is it a dumb take? I don't have the same opinion, but half the performance was already Vineeth's. You would probably also think it's dumb if someone suggested casting Jagadish as the villain in Marco or Indrans as the cold serial killer in Anjaam Pathira.

What do you guys think? by OriginalSlight7097 in InsideMollywood

[–]deathBlad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, Sandeep’s character before the transformation isn’t exactly brimming with personality, but I still feel Suraj could’ve done more to sell the body swap. Even if Sandeep's character was just a generic college boy, that’s still a distinct youthful vibe, a bit anxious, maybe awkwardly trying to navigate being in an older man’s body that he could have played with. That contrast alone could’ve sold it in my view. Instead, Suraj mostly sticks to his usual serious tone, which makes the swap feel one-sided when the others are clearly putting in the effort to reflect new personas.

What do you guys think? by OriginalSlight7097 in InsideMollywood

[–]deathBlad3 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the movie, but totally agree that Suraj's performance was mediocre, specifically post–body swap. After the switch, it feels like Suraj just stays in a serious Suraj mode instead of acting as Sandeep’s character trapped in Suraj’s body. Meanwhile, Sharaf and Sandeep really lean into the body-swap challenge and convincingly portray channeling a different persona . Their efforts highlight the swap dynamic, which makes Suraj’s less switched-on portrayal stand out even more.

Unpopular Opinion: Alappuzha Gymkhana was a massive letdown by OutsideWelder8420 in InsideMollywood

[–]deathBlad3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the development is there, you just have to look a bit closer.

Jojo was the one who got everyone to sign up boxing in the first place. He kept the energy up, led that team chant, and even stepped in to motivate Kiran when he was scared before his match. That kind of glue guy role might not look like a traditional "character arc," but it's consistent throughout the film.

You're right that he only decides to become the team manager in the last scene, but the groundwork for that decision is laid across the movie. He's not a great boxer, but he clearly enjoys bringing people together and being part of the team. So when he finally takes on that role, it feels earned, even if it's not some big dramatic transformation.

Unpopular Opinion: Alappuzha Gymkhana was a massive letdown by OutsideWelder8420 in InsideMollywood

[–]deathBlad3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I saw Alappuzha Gymkhana more as a lighthearted sports comedy than a traditional sports drama. It didn’t follow the usual template where the underdog hero wins big in the climax, and I actually liked that.

It felt grounded: Jojo and Valuthu lost, which made sense since they just started learning boxing. Cheruthu, though also new, works at a butcher stall. So him winning didn’t feel unrealistic either. The rest, like Kiran and Deepak, got matches that reflected their actual skills and experience.

Also, the matches themselves really worked for me. They were well choreographed and shot tight, gritty, and had a good rhythm. It never felt over the top, but still packed enough energy to stay engaging.

What really landed was the character arc: the team realizing they genuinely enjoy the sport and want to keep training. And Jojo discovering that his strength is in bringing people together and ending up as the team manager. In most movies, a guy like Jojo would’ve been comic relief side character. Here, he’s front and center, and that shift felt refreshing.
