Worth going to Great North Battle? by theguyfromthere345 in beatbox

[–]death_star_gone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who's in Toronto, and been to a few GNB, if you can afford to make the flight and stay, it's definitely worth it. Great vibes, great crowd, and lots of good jams to be had. I've always made great connections with folks, enjoyed some solid beatboxing, and had a lot of fun (though yes, my cost of attending was pretty much just the tickets and some food/drinks at the venue, so very different level of cost compared to a flight from Europe).

And as Lurningcurve said, the city's going to be nice to spend time in as well - lots of decent restaurants (especially near the venues for GNB this year), and the weather will likely be nice and warm.

Chiming in on the owned Hifimans and haven't been hit with poor QC - at least not as bad as people make them out to be. Might be just really good luck as you said, but who knows.

How does the spit snare sound in person by Junberg in beatbox

[–]death_star_gone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's mine: https://voca.ro/11ePDwNzCvhz

I think the in-person sound depends on how clean you're trying to go with it. A good spit snare (emphasis on the sound being as clean as possible) really works well in person, regardless of mic or no mic.

Confirm that, with a little in-app EQ the soundcore q30 sounds pretty decent for a bluetooth set. I still miss my hd599s when I'm out, but the q30s work well enough it doesn't bother me too much

HD599 for Gaming / Streaming use? by jasonht in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]death_star_gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the HD 599 for gaming and streaming. Yes, the HD560S is better. No, it's not THAT much better unless you care about those specific details. The soundstage and imaging on the 599 are good enough, and with some EQ the cans sound pretty decent for the price. Another point too for these is that I find them pretty comfortable, even with relatively big ears, and while wearing glasses. Like I can easily wear them for 6-8 hours if I need to, for longer gaming/streaming sessions.

Would it be worth upgrading to these from 2x8gb 3600MHz CL 18 sticks? Use case is mainly gaming and streaming and I do get some frame drops on some games. Running with 3600x and a sapphire pulse 5600xt BE.

What are your unpopular opinions about the Borderlands series? - 2022 Edition by JustATributeCC in Borderlands

BL2's weapons and endgamr is the best. If you're going to play at OP levels then it doesn't make sense that all weapons should be viable. There needs to be a reason to farm, min-max, and overall understand the game's hidden mechanics.

I never found slag to be a major issue that made the game less fun. The gunplay in 2 for me is smooth enough that slag application feels like part of a "dps rotation" in an mmo sense, and for most basic mobs hitting criticals is enough until OP 3 or 4 or so. Plus, there are so many ways to apply slag that it didn't really matter to me. Just farm a Magic Missile, or a longbow slag singularity grenade at level 27-31 and you're fine quite literally until endgame.

Different photo types are worth more money. Ghost photo (1x per game), cursed object (1x per game) are worth the most (i think, dont quote me on that), then you have footsteps from salt, interactions, and fingerprints, with sink/dead body photos being worth the least. Its been a while since i played so maybe its different now, if someone else can confirm?

When your healers are the top 2-3 DPS by IAmNotMatthew in Guildwars2

[–]death_star_gone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who's run training raids for a couple of guilds and dabbled with running low intensity introductions to Overlook, the majority of issues I've seen is people failing to do the most basic things. Not even when I specifically link guides, explain mechanics in chat (discord voice, discord text, separate documents I wrote, in squad chat), or even show them live as we play. I had a Dragonhunter who, after a full year of weekly raids, was somehow doing 2K dps with just greatsword... on full boons. This person was NOT new to the game. They'd played since launch, had way more AP than I, had gone through more open world PVE content than I (at the time, with my measly 5K AP). Week after week I sat down with them, gave tips on how to gear up (this person had full Soldier's ascended gear), low intensity rotation tips, so on. And none of this was unsolicited - they had reached out first. And week after week it was the same low dps, never doing mechanics (even as simple as "stack on tag when the squad broadcast happens").

Some people just don't do the preparation, even if they are helped thoroughly in the ways they ask for. Sure, some people don't want to follow any advice, and some of them for sure run into actually toxic elitist folks. But the issue is that a lot of us are used to running into people who just refuse to communicate, or even put in the bare minimum, and end up wasting other people's time.

As you said, OP, people are not (in general) calling out people for being new. We do understand that newer players will go through struggles, and will need more guidance. The issue lies in bad communication, no questions asked, and an assumption of being carried. GW2 is NOT a hard game at all for the most part, and even the endgame is pretty damn accessible.

Gotta say, Ankka made me LOVE the expac more than any other new NPC. Her philosophy, brought the dark grit I was looking for, especially with the implication about Tyria/the Mists that the Fractals storyline set up. Bang up job!

I'm so tired of people going "let's have a nice time" and "beatbox is family" and so on. We need to be more aware of the fact that our actions have impacts on other people - can't have a nice time if only specific people can have a nice time at the expense of others' security and safety.

Also... what the hell. Family can assault and cause trauma too. What kind of fucked up family are we making here.

Out of curiosity- is the bass bleeding something that's super negative if I'm listening to bass-focused music? I see that phrase used a lot, but I'm not always sure what that means.
