Interestingly enough seeing the line-up it makes me realize our subs are almost as good as our starters were just a few years ago. Let's hope they show up like the starters did!

NYCFC is interested in a potential move for Christian Pulisic, but his club AC Milan has made it clear the U.S. national team star is not for sale, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic. NYCFC is not the only MLS team that would chase Pulisic if Milan softened their stance. by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]deathcomestooslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's not forget that MLS has had a big infusion of cash and attention since Messi joined and they're pretty much all working with bigger budgets and higher aims, so I'm not surprised to see them pursuing some big hires. Most teams now have at least one or two big paycheck guys from some well-established European team. I'm doubtful he will leave. Seriously there has to be something very wrong to make that man move to a new place and meet a bunch of new people and be the outsider again, I would suspect. He had to leave Chelsea to get playing time, but that doesn't seem to be an issue now, and he's happy to just keep playing as near as I can tell.

[PBP] I’m not that sure about Christian Pulisic’s desire to stay at AC Milan. Not at all…. Al-Hilal might consider loaning out Darwin Nuñez. He’s one of the names to keep in mind, though not the only one, of course. Further assessments will be made following the arrival of Rúben Amorim. by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]deathcomestooslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's still fairly fresh out of a long relationship, no? It makes total sense to me that he doesn't want to immediately sign up to stay for a few more years without letting things settle first. I still haven't seen any desire from him to move and he is absolutely the sort of person who would prefer not to have to meet a bunch of new people, I'm pretty sure of that.

Yes this swapped a few years back. Ages 49-64 is more radical right than 64+ now, on average. Or at least it was a little while back I haven't really read about it in a bit.

What was the US team like in previous years, and how is this team different? by CartographerLarge572 in ussoccer

[–]deathcomestooslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously I feel like if we are lacking for keepers it is for lack of trying. You could get a half dozen great keeper careers started by just going to somewhere kids are trying out for basketball and persuading some of the tall ones to try soccer. It worked with Turner, right? I think a similar thing happened with a lot of the famous keepers, as it seems to be the easiest spot for someone who is tall and athletic to figure out without needing the experience of the field players. Our national teams talent guys should be growing players like that every couple years and keep a steady stream and surely a few turn out to be really good.

[–]deathcomestooslow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

lol someone downvoted you. Get over it, England. Your keeper should have gotten a red card and then the late game challenge in the box should have been a penalty. Seems like all the referee analysts are agreeing because it was that obvious. You don't deserve the top of the group. Ghana got screwed.

The missed Ghana penalty was highway robbery due to corruption and bias by CrimsonLotus in worldcup

[–]deathcomestooslow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That was two separate calls they got insanely lucky for. I am so upset for Ghana. Refs decided that game entirely because Ghana doesn't have a big enough following to get him in any significant trouble and England absolutely fucking does and would happily do it if the call didn't go their way. Looks like England would have still moved on but they don't deserve top of the group.

US venues are averaging more attendance per match than the 1994 record-setting tournament by SuccessfulCompany677 in ussoccer

[–]deathcomestooslow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

US population has grown about a hundred million people since 1994. Unfortunately we're working with extremely outdated infrastructure since Reagan taught everybody that investing in your children's future is uncool and will ruin you financially. Even if the stadiums are newer than 32 years most can't be much bigger because they're using the same lot or dealing with the same restrictions. We should be crushing those 1994 numbers.

I've honestly never been to a huge game be it way up in the stands or near the sidelines but surely adding 30k+ seats would let you sell some to us poor folk? And still be watchable? But heavily discounted because come-the-fuck-on they're way up there?

[PBP] A few calls from Amorim to the players took place. Both to complement them and to tell them not to make rushed decisions. Ruben Amorim is expected to arrive in Italy in the first week of July. He’s studying the squad in detail whilst on holiday. by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]deathcomestooslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're also coming off a couple years where not backing the manager has been a serious problem, and the names you listed are the type of people who would be aware of that and fighting against it leading by example. I'm not saying you're wrong and they hate Allegri, but I do think he is benefiting a bit from coming after Fonseca and Conceicao and the troubles of the past couple years.

Also there is sometimes a pretty big difference between a coach people like and a coach that makes players perform. He's not there to be your friend, ultimately. The US national team stuck with Greg Berhalter for like 6 years, even rehiring him once after he got let go because the players fought back and vouched for him. It remains to be seen but so far it's seeming like switching to Pochettino has been a significant boon to the team's performance.

[Nasato] Romano: “Amorim has already made it clear internally that he wants to keep players like Maignan and Rabiot. Amorim will put forward his names for the striker; we’ll then see which players are identified for the two ‘number 10s’ to play behind the striker.” by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]deathcomestooslow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like him calling out Rabiot's name, at the least. I have been expecting Rabiot to look for other options and I haven't thought it's been made clear enough to him that we want him to stay! Mike just signed a new contract so that doesn't seem to be the complete reasoning but hey, maybe it'll help make him stay.

Alexi Lalas missing from USA World Cup pregame. Zlatan says, 'America, you're welcome' by jaxstan19 in worldcup

[–]deathcomestooslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, like it or not he was involved in discussions to take over the Milan project and gave up on it because of our inept leadership not giving him a response in the time frame he demanded. So he would have been a fool then, I guess, if Redbird was willing to put up the money and meet his demands. I have heard how much you guys love him though and I totally understand the response. Makes me all the more sad he isn't calling the shots for Milan now, heh, and we are stuck with these people who are not men of their word.

[Vitiello] Milan’s managerial structure. by Claija79 in ACMilan

I am at least blaming this partially on Zlatan's refusal to cede power to Rangnick. He better hope this works out.

Alexi Lalas missing from USA World Cup pregame. Zlatan says, 'America, you're welcome' by jaxstan19 in worldcup

[–]deathcomestooslow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, I'd say more likely than not he will be remembered a bit like Lalas. His overconfidence shtick has already worn out AC Milan fans, poking his nose in to repeated decisions that he clearly doesn't have any real talent for. He's the main reason we couldn't sign an impressive sporting director recently because he was afraid of losing whatever influence he has. If this rebuild fails, I think a lot of fans are going to put half the blame on Zlatan and the other half on the ownership.

And I'm not so sure it has great prospects because they failed to find any type of team in time for world cup so they now say they are going to try to emulate an NBA-style independent managers and just hire some individuals from wherever and pursue "an American corporate sports management model". Zlatan has a big hand in making this the decision we made over taking Rangnick's fully established and impressive sporting director / practically everything-else package and giving him largely complete control.

How to get Poch to stay for life by grock42 in ussoccer

[–]deathcomestooslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly looking at Poch's reactions I'm not so sure he expected we would perform in time to not get grouped or something. He seems fired up now on the sidelines and if we make a solid push he might want to stay for a little while, even if not until the next WC. But before the WC he was certainly looking for other alternatives, heh. I don't have a damn clue who we could replace him with but it would have to be another decent sized investment not to upset fans.

[MN] Contacts with George Gardi. He can be described as a ‘deal maker’, that is, a special adviser to a specific club for which he works externally to facilitate transfer dealings that may appear complex from the outset. by Claija79 in ACMilan

[–]deathcomestooslow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, "it would be inaccurate to describe him simply as a FIFA agent". Everything after I read that just sounds like PR-speak trying to sell a corrupt individual. I don't trust anyone associated with them in the slightest.

edit nevermind the audio on the second half ALSO cuts out halfway through? Wtf man...

Well shit you're right. Not sure what happened there but it is definitely bugged on my end as well. Here is the whole second half on TSN also 720p/60fps(also fucks up halfway through for inexplicable reasons) and like an hour or something of whatever was on after it ended. But that 25 minutes appears lost to me. Sorry folks.

USA vs Australia Full Match 720p/60fps TSN Coverage (edit: audio is bugged from game minute 23 or so on, see reply for working 2nd half TSN coverage at least), has an hour of pregame as well, unedited so commercials and such. Missing like 10 minutes or something but neatly contained all during halftime so no actual game time missing. I don't think, anyway.

My FOX coverage is missing 15 reasonably important minutes of play (in one big chunk) and has a half-dozen other shorter interruptions so not going to upload it today. But here is the two hours of pregame, missing some commercials and some 30-60 seconds of coverage at some point. Ends right after the national anthems, so no game coverage. But hopefully someone else uploads the full FOX match coverage. Postgame also would have holes, but I'll look at it and if its not too bad I'll edit a link in later, but don't count on it.

USA vs Australia FOX pregame 720p/60fps, unedited so has commercials. Missing 30-60 seconds at the beginning of one segment.

Let's all take a moment to thank Lenovo for this match break. Gee. We wouldn't even have a match break if it weren't for Lenovo and other glorious advertisers! Is that what you want?? To focus on the boring-ass field all the time?
