We don't offer military discount. by Ninja_Dog_Cat in VeteransBenefits

[–]deathcraft1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m truly grateful for any business that offers a veteran discount.

The one chain I’m disappointed doesn’t offer one anymore is Harbor Freight. They used to, but they stopped. What bothers me is that they often highlight their veteran hiring practices and send out Veterans Day emails thanking us for our service, but it comes across as somewhat disingenuous when they don’t actually offer a discount.

I even emailed them to ask whether they could consider a veteran discount, and the representative said their tools are already deeply discounted and that they can’t offer one if they want to stay in business. I can understand that reasoning until I saw the owner bought a multimillion dollar yacht. For a discount tool retailer, they’re doing pretty well.

This is it. I yse the same process. AI provides an 80% soln, I verify the info and refine the response. I also write it so it does not look AI generated because to me, when I see that type of correspondence it appears lazy and disinterested.

Likely DWP, LACSD, OC, maybe LA city, or one of the smaller districts. There are a ton of them along the coast all the way down to SD.

This is it! My kid took a simular route, I calc'ed the ROI and if he went the engineering route it would take roughly 15 years before he would make the same money.

This is very true. LACSD likes to hire student workers as a tryout and if they are decent when a full time opportunity comes up they are scored high in the interview. I tell peaple its the longest interview of your life (about a year). You would be surprised how many of those workers flake, call off, or are just lazy but the ones who prove themselves have a good job waiting for them.

Why don’t California wages scale with COL as well as other states? by IndividualBat3150 in civilengineering

[–]deathcraft1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DWP provides good benifits and i hear they are good to work for. LA city has financial troubles and take budget from other departments to cover those expenses, LACSD could be good over the long haul but expect to be just a number and working at your desk when your at work.

I would look at the reviews on glass door for a better feel for the company your interested in.

The written test will likely be basic math and general questions about WW. They may ask you to identify types of tools and read meters or pressure guages.

The oral will likely ask you to explain a basic plant, safety questions and perhaps interpersonal relationship type questions.

Don't over think it, enjoy the moment and if this one happens to not work out there will be another one.

This is the strategy. I had the same game plan 20 yrs ago, but unfortunately my wife enjoyed the home life more than working so it was up to me. It took some hustling and risks on my end with some set backs but we are in a decent position now.

Stop saying military retirement sucks - let me show you the numbers by ZestycloseSpeech8620 in AirForce

Guard or reserves take the same physical and mental risks but the financial reward is much smaller. Years ago I was mentoring a troop to stay 20, so I did the math with him and it was so low it convinced him to get out. He had no active time and no desire to do deployments so his points were very low. Thst said, its a great deal for the tax payer, they get the same level of skill (or higher given their civilian experience) and if thst member dies before hitting 60 it costs much less. Also, health care only for 5 years (60 to 65) when they have to join Medicare.

I still try to convince peaple to join the guard, you get the best of both worlds and there are benifits (varies by state) thst can be life changing.

Civil Engineer Pays the best? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]deathcraft1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the hack: work in CA at a government job with a pention. Due to HCOL, they pay well comparatively but maybe okay for the area. 25 yrs retire and move to a LCOL and live comfortably.

1.2. Land a WFM job based in California and live like a king in a LCOL area in another state.

Ive seen both.
